The Witcher-Official Thread

encountered my first crash! was fighting about 4 ghouls in the crypt was buffed up with lots of potions and my laptop crashed : hardware failure or smt. Possibly my lappy was overheating it was pretty hot and id been playing for a while (2hours)

Mild Spoiler:

So I'm on Chapter 1 and I killed the drowners, I then accepted the quest to take a package into the city, why do I have this terrible feeling its a bomb ?

CHokKA and Frosti

Thanks - means I don't have to waste money buying it. I hate third person with a passion which is impossible to describe. At the very least it's a complete immersion-breaker.

M

Just the though of performing spinning combos in first person makes me taste my breakfast (again).

I'm really not liking the combat system - does anyone have any tips?

Edit: Seems decent, got used to it now.

i didnt like the OTS view for combat to begin with so i switched to low isometric thought it was easier to fight multiple enemies. But i now mix between them. All good :D

********SPOILER*********************************

Having a bit of difficulty despatching those plant creature things in the cave for the "dead mans hand" quest. in Act 1.

They basically all appear at once and gang up on me and you cant attack if you are busy getting hit! Stun doesnt appear to work on them.

I had the same problem. Highlight below for some help :)

***SPOILER***

I made a note of where they spawned and then re-entered the cave, being careful not to walk too close to where the others would pop. They won't spawn and attack you until you get close enough, so most I had out at once was two. They were quite easy to kill in fast attack mode. Also, after I had done the first set of 3, I stood around and waited for my health to regen before moving onto the next set.

***SPOILER***

Maybe some consideration could be used for people who have'nt almost completed the game, by putting Spoiler in the post?:(

I agree with you Leuven as I enjoy reading this thread and wouldnt want to read any spoilers by accident.

It really annoyed me when I read on another forum that on the last chapter the only way to kill the golden dragon was by equiping the emerald sword after destroying its eggs! The fact that I found out there was actaully a giant golden dragon at the end spoiled the surprise for me never mind how to actually kill it!

Cheers

Deks

ps I obviously made up the golden dragon was just making a point :)

pps hope to god there isnt really a golden dragon or I think i'll be lynched :)

Damn you! Just read that and thought noooo now i know whats at the end of the witcher! :p

Reading this thread is hard, but good news, looks like my copy has been dispatched! Heres hoping it will arrive tomorrow:D

As I said earlier in the thread, don't be too quick to judge the combat and game in general, etc, it takes a few hours at least before you start getting into it properly and seeing how deep things are.

If anything I'd say the prologue (tutorial section) is the weakest part of the game by far, it gets a whole lot better after that :)

I think the only thing that stands out as a let down for me is the combat system.
I just don't feel atall involved by just clicking the mouse button and waiting, then clicking again, I would even prefer to use a simple system like in Dark Messiah or similar but I really wish it was like Severance where you felt like you were controlling and deciding on the battle and combat :(

Hopefully it will get more involving if I get any further as I only did about an hour on it because of the combat.

The intro "video" was enjoyable enough to wish I had gotten some popcorn.
While the graphics and smoothness have also been fine.

I won't give up, but I may end up doing just a little here and there instead of a few hours at a time.

I bought this as a result of reading this thread, been a long long time since I played a decent RPG with an engrossing storyline and less action orientated than games have been recently...hell maybe even been 20 years since I last played one which really interested me (and that would be the original Bards Tale series).

So far I am thoroughly enjoying it...just reached the start of Chapter 1. I think with the imminent Call of Duty 4 and Crysis already on my shopping list, this genre and style of game will go nicely in tandem when I dont feel like mindlessly shooting things
