The Witcher-Official Thread

Also, whatever key you use to draw your sword, pressing it again once it's drawn switches between the combat styles. I try the over the shoulder view if you're finding combat frustrating. You don't see as much of the battlefield, but it's a lot easier to target people and follow the visual clues as to when to strike again.

If you play it on hard I think the flaming sword doesn't show, you have to watch geralt's moves for the moment to strike again :)

I am another one that enjoys the combat and I cannot understand why some are having problems with the camera. I find the over shoulder view to be excellent and I never use the other views. The combat is also about positioning so if you have been surrounded and stunned by tough opponents jump over their backs and use the strong stance and take them down one at a time. At first I did not think much about the combat, but now I like it more than Oblivions.

I think the combat in the game is varied and the system is fantastic. I like the fact that Geralt will parry and dodge on his own, but that you can also over-ride it by stepping out of the way by double-tapping the WASD keys. It gives you far more control over the combat, way more than you get in most games. All other games I've played don't take into account that you've moved and you get autohit by the enemy regardless of where you're standing. This makes a nice change and makes the combat more about your own skill while also relying on your character's skills.

I use the OST view, it works the best for me and I find I have more control over everything that's happening in the game.

ok guys...something ive been reading about at the official site and at the codex.

Apparently, if you have the original polish version of this game you can expect a much richer dialogue.

At least 2 freelancers who did work on the english translation for Atari (distributors) have said that a lot of the translation work to English was edited and trimmed down.

I mention this sort of thing because there has been a few times in this game where the dialogue makes ZERO sense whatsoever. Its a little bit annoying (obviously not enough to spoil the game but still)

(e.g. 2 sorta quests which come to mind for me where something is wrong with the dialogue are the cannibal in the swamp and Shani's old mother in Shani's house when you meet both of these characters in act 2.)

Ive also heard that you can put back in to the text the better dialogue (it wont be spoken though i have no idea why Atari cut some of the spoken dialogue) by going into the .ini file and changing
Language=FinalEnglish_Short to Language=FinalEnglish_Long

(the ini file is in the system folder)

I havent tested this myself yet.

Have you checked it out yet as I have not touched the game for the last 2 days because I end up playing too late and I have to work.

Between my other half, work and the loading times I don't find myself with enough time to get immersed in this. It's one of those ones that, as a kid, you'd sit in all day and play. Ironic that it's an 18 really.

I have the time but when I start playing I can't put it down. I reckon this weekend will be like the last when I ended up playing the whole day.

You are lucky then. I should be able to find time for it this weekend (either side of a trip to Wales for the night :(). My worry is I'll get sucked into Gears of War if it's as good as people are saying.

I do wish they would hurry up with the patch to address auto saving. I've setup my pagefile on a seperate drive, junction pointed the save folder to a seperate partition on that drive, tweaked my setup as far as I'm able but still get these long level transitions. It's annoying to say the least.

I normally can only stomach 1-2 hrs of games these days but have been playing The Witcher 3-4 hrs at times. Considering I'm a jaded and washed up old gamer these days (and overworked too), that is quite an acheivement :D

I could have written that!

I did :p

It really does remove the jaded.

I hope Mass Effect is as good.

The end sequence is stunning too

I found the Last chapter really easy compared to the rest of the game

Spoiler follows

Especially once you get the sword from the fields in level 4 +100% damage and ignores all armour on humans

Hey guys.

Now that the initial hype has died down, do you still feel this is a fantastic game? Are there any niggles that take away from the experience? Can I get it cheaper than £24.98 from anywhere :)?

You can get it for £17.99 delivered

Not sure if they're a competitor though as OCUK sell consoles and games now

Have a look on the price comparison sites :)
