The Witcher-Official Thread

You need to use your talent points to hit the higher combos. try stunning them with the wind power first too... you get some pretty funky finishing moves then :D.

doofer, is your PC just 1gb? coz I would imagine that won't help with loading, altho some people say it takes a while even with 2gb. I've not had any real issues with loading time..5-10secs max usually no matter what area is.

What's the deal with the key code on the back of the manual? At no point during the installation was I asked to enter it, so what is it actually for? I've also registered on the website but that hasn't asked me for it either.

Edit: Nevermind, figured it out. It's asking me for it if I use the registration link through the games launcher.

I have got Vsync working on this game :D (For Ati Vista 64 Ultimate)

I uninstalled CCC (Catalyst Control Center)

Installed Ati Tray Tools, (ATT) and put my refresh rate (desktop to 85hz) and also set the Refresh rate Lock in ATT to 85hz...

Tearing has gone

Also what level difficulty are you guys playing it at :D?

normal:)

Just started chapter 2 and, and im so engrossed into the story:)

btw ive had my way with three women on here now:D

How did you beat the beast? Abigail is completely useless and whenever she does heal me she aggro's the lot and dies  I've tried knocking the beast back now and then and using the group stance to keep the other doggies at bay but that stun ability stops me in my tracks and before you know it I'm dead. Been at it 10+ times now and my patience is wearing thin lol.

Bit of a dilemma, lucky for my I am quite early in the game... I have the difficulty set to hard.....thinking that it may include special areas, etc :o

I guess not, I have been readying on the net and it appears the response for combos (on lets say hard) is much more difficult as well as using the right potions..........

I think I will start again and set to normal :p

i used fast attack to kill the small dogs, then i stunned the big dog with the wind power and one-shotted him with a finishing move. look me quite a few tries tho and i think i may have got lucky

and yes the second chapter is much harder, there are monsters i just cant kill even though i am quite souped up, so im glad im playing on normal

I bought Withcher today. I tried to install it but my hard drive was full... so i thought id give the 80gig gal a good clean out.

... one XP reinstall later i realise i have not backed up my latest nwn1 saves - ive played nwn1 five or more times and never got as far as i did this time.

But hey, that doesnt matter any more.. why, you ask?

Coz ive got The Witcher.

Nuf said. Anything with an intro as good as The Witcher has is going to be a great game... i wasnt far off, its better than great. The Witcher is the reason Assassins Creed was put back to 2008. The writers of Assassins Creed are scared of CDProjekt.

All though this is a heavily modified Aurora engine I see that it does not support dual core. I checked with task manager and the one core was not used at all while the other was constantly at 100%. I reckon my CPU may be holding back my graphics card. I would be interested to know what percentage is been used with those with faster CPU's. I decided to run FRAPS and was surprised to see that my FPS were lower than I thought as the game runs fairly smoothly - 25 to 45 outside and over 100 inside houses. This is maxed at 1680x1050, x2 AA, x16 AF.

I just installed it now after finally getting it delivered today and I'm well impressed by it :D

I'm pretty much echoing what others have previously said but so far my first impressions is wow why was there not more hype about this beauty of a game?

For starters the intro is fantastic and is well worth watching unlike the majority of games bar a few.

Screenshots do not do the game justice compared to seeing it running on your screen.
The animations/detail in the game is superb and it runs flawlessly.

The sound is great from the affects to the music. It all fits in so well.

The controls/interface are easy to grasp and you can access tutorials if you wish ingame which is a nice touch.

The storyline is pretty good so far from the little I have seen.

My only tiny niggle is the cameras and even then its half as as bad as what people have made out in my opinion.

*goes off to play some more* :D

ok started playing this last night.

Intro is pretty good - one of the longest intros ive seen.

Ive only played the home castle bit so i cant comment on anything else but i hope it does get better :(

Im a little underwhelmed with it. Maybe i'm using the wrong camera mode. Using OTS for everything. And to be honest NWN 2 camera is miles better than the Witchers. At least in NWN 2 you could zoom in and rotate the camera easily. You cannot do that in this.

I found using OTS is quite immersive but combat is not good. you are fixed looking at him from close top-down ish at an angle and you dont really see his combo attacks. I had no idea WHEN to press left mouse button again if it wasnt for the flaming sword icon. And your view is very very restricted, i was constantly surrounded by enemies and i couldnt see them.

What camera angle is everyone using? I'm thinking of restarting the game using F2 camera view (close isometric i think)

But in this day and age why can we not zoom in and rotate the camera angle????? Like i said NWN 2 camera is in another league compared to the Witcher's

Graphics:

Feels like a very very good MOD, but maybe im being harsh. The player models are excellent but the background graphics are quite dated i thought. Most other games on the market look better really.
Feels like an old game not a new game!

Sound: Its pretty Good, quite distinctive. Voices aint too bad.

I like the interface: It has its own style and it hints at depth to the game so heres hoping.

Also getting a little tearing occasionally. With note to the graphics - im playing this with everying MAXED AF at 16x and AA 2x. It was preset to this when i checked it. At resolution 1440x900. I upped the resolution to 1920 x1200 (my native res) and it looks marginally better i guess.

Good aspect is that it runs very smoothly even though ive maxed it out. A little bit of stuttering when i was fighting that mage fellow where you had to kill his henchmen first (he was drawing power from them).

Still its only the beginning i will perservere :) i'd give it 6 or 7 out of 10 so far.
