The Witcher (PC) vs Mass Effect (360)

both awesome games id go with witcher but only on price ive completed mass effect and playing my way through witcher now both are awesome really involving and both have excellent replay value

p.s.
LOL this would probably be one of the most difficult decisions of my entire life, I love both. :(

That said, my decision would be this: I would refuse to decide and buy both.
i agree there is a chance of you loosing your partner/job/social life tho

The Witcher, but only barely. Mass Effect is amazing, but you can probably get The Witcher for less than half the price.
why is the witcher so cheap it's a brilliant game so it can't be due to bad sales..... hmmmm maybe it's cause it's polish

Yeah I picked it up for only £20 new at a well known game chain that trades in PC games (hence my nefarious appearance there!:)), the ironic thing is I traded in my copy of Mass Effect (special edition no less!) for it.

I doubt i'd go back to either game, and I really enjoyed Mass Effect, but there is just 'something', about the Witcher that is more involving and addictive, that being said I did play Mass Effect beginning to end once, doing all the side quests and collecting more than my quota of stupid rocks and insignias.

Even though it may of had a smaller budget though, I wouldn't say the Witcher's production values were low, for a single player RPG I think the graphics are only surpassed just by Oblivion, and I prefer the graphics style by a long way on the Witcher, also, the Witcher has the best introduction movie / animation that I'm tempted to say I've seen in a PC game, I haven't been that impressed by a game intro since Mechwarrior 2 when it first game out, which is sadly looking very dated now....

When I play the Witcher it feels.... serious, yet fun, when I played Mass Effect it was to find out the latest 'cool' thing that was going to happen, I think I can sum it up by saying that Mass Effect was a leap from one set of cool things to another with some sometimes dull stuff inbetween (rover missions anyone? Same corridor with same enemies on same type of space ship you found in the same type of asteroid belt?), The Witcher seems to offer a more consistent level of enjoyment at each moment, there are no tasks that I feel are strained, hell, I spent a good 30 minutes last night just playing the dice poker sub game with various NPCs to boost my cash in game.

And I know i'm going to seriously miss playing the Witcher even though I'm only less than a 3rd of the way through, don't think i've enjoyed a gaming experience so much since I played and completed the original Fable.

I've changed my mind, Witcher Wins!:D

The Witcher.

Such an amazing game in a year of amazing games. This is the first game I've seen that promises consequences to your actions and truely delivers, I can't count how many times I actually weighed up my actions in order to avoid the "Greater Evil". Unfortunately, the frame rate seems to have dropped to a disgusting level now in the fifth chapter and has resulted in me reducing my settings and the combat can be a bit buggy at times but even still this has got to be one of my all time favorite games.

Mass Effect is good from what I've played of it, but the checkpoint system is terrible, on a few occasions I forgot to save after killing some enemies and driving along, only to get owned by something, then I find out the last save location was miles back.

Haven't played Mass Effect but the Witcher has kept me occupied for about two months on and off - I finally finished it earlier this week. Given that most RPG's will last me a couple of weeks at best I think that is pretty good going.

Yes, it has its problems (shoddy inventory system, over-used NPC character models, performance issues and the juvenile "sex cards" system) but I can put those aside when the game has such excellent style, story and feel.

Definitely the best game I played in 2007.
