The Witcher series (Netflix)

given he's a huge fan of the games and books, I'll give him a chance. Still dubious, but hoping his passion for the character/world will somehow pay off.
They said the same thing about casting 'huge fan' Tom Jane as The Punisher, and that still turned out to be a steaming pile of turbidity... Jane actually is very good in the role, as the independent short Laundry Day proved, but the main film was dire!

What did "they" say about Jane? That they'd give him a chance because he was a huge fan?

Mildly hyped now, or rather some hope for the show to be good, providing they cast a good Yen etc.

I mean, he wouldn't have been at the top of the list in my mind, but physically he's all there, and I'm sure they'll do a proper job with the make up (those fan mock ups look awesome) so it's just a case of how he comes across on camera. Fingers crossed.

There's definitely actors who'd look more like the character in the game but their acting would be noticeably worse than Cavill's imo, plus he's going to bring in a shedload of female fans, good thing he started balding a little to get the hairline!

IIRC he's into video games as well so his interest might make him play the role even better. I'm sure it was him on an American talk show who said he missed a call to be cast in a role because he was playing World of Warcraft.

That he was a huge Punisher fan, so his passion for the character would somehow pay off.... Turns out he wasn't a fan until after he was cast, and went off to read every Punisher issue of everything.
But even then, most of how a film or character turns out is completely down to script writers, directors and studio execs, not the actors.

Be fair, at the start of the first Witcher Yen is 100 years old.

But given she doesn't look it that's completely irrelevant :p

I liked Cavill in Mission Impossible, I didn't think he could do that role so I'm definitely going to give him a shot as Geralt. Great to hear he's such a fan of the source material too.
