The Witcher series (Netflix)

Well, it didn't take long for PC nonsense to infect this show. Apparently they're looking to make Ciri black or Asian...

The placement of a Asian actress wouldn't concern me, as long as she is a good actress and able to fulfil the role well.
It is somewhat concerning when the role should be filled by a or b, just 'because'.
Theatre has for a long time used any suitable actor in any role.
In this case, a slight bastardisation of the source would be forgivable if they get everything else right.

You'll like this, then.

Wow perfect for the role :)

Apparently not making a show all white is PC nonsense. Sigh. The ******* author even backed changes and the trolls are still throwing their toys out of the pram.

I like to imagine what would happen if it was flipped - the outrage we'd get if a white actress was chosen to play a black character... But apparently it's perfectly fine to change white characters just for the sake of diversity. The double standards are astounding.

But you think it's fine in 2018 to have an entirely white cast.

if they make ciri non-white they are going to have to change her origin, or make the whole nilfgaardian race non-white i suppose.

Why? Is there a reason there can't be different ethnicities in the nilfgaardians?

If a show has an all white cast, or an all black cast or an all asian cast i don't care, its the quality of the entertainment that matters.

Well her dad is the emperor so he could be a different ethnicity but they would have to be the majority because it seems unrealistic for a minority to be emperor in the witcher world. Or she could have a black (or whatever) mother?
As long as the back story fits within the world i don't really care about the colour of her skin.

But i can see why people are annoyed - it is an established character and that character happens to be white - but then they are free to go in a different direction if they want. As long as they do something with it and its not just a box ticking exercise simply for the sake of the appearance of diversity.

Are you serious or just playing devils advocate?

If the Character was written as Black or Asian and they cast her as white all hell would break lose and this has happened recently with a few shows and movies. I know Altered Carbon got flack for no apparent reason about the main actor being white and not Asian even though the story had a reason for it and people jumped onto the hysteia band wagon. Also Ed Skien left the Hellboy reboot due to finding out the character he was playing was written as an Asian. Ghost in the Shell also recieved flack.

This is as stated above
Forced inclusion for the sake of inclusion.

On the other hand I would not have a problem if the next bond was Black or Asian. As long as he was played as being English as in todays multi cultural Britain it is entirely feasible for a Mi5 agent to be from these ethenic backgrounds

Yeah how could someone from an imaginary world be asian or black. That's totally unrealistic.

You have a serious case of whataboutism. As soon as you start bringing up either hypothetical scenarios you have no argument. One wrong doesn't make another wrong fine.
