The Witcher series (Netflix)

Maybe this Anya person is just Yen for story flashbacks, you know - young Yen, the hunchback Yen? Surely they wouldn't cast such young person for the role plus wouldn't give main female role to a first timer (then he looks at the cast of Game of Thrones and goes silent...)

For a bit of perspective to Yennefer's character for those that don't know, here's a really good description of her and her tragic backstory.

WARNING contains spoilers for the books:

Now after that consider the bright-eyed, baby-faced girl they got to play her. It just doesn't match...

They use a particular potion to halt the aging process.

I really don't see how a 22 year old is going to carry off portraying a woman that is like a 100 years old and a bitch... And i see there being zero sexual chemistry between her and Cavil who is 35, they should have picked a actress closer to Cavils age.

This is going to be soooo bad.

I'm not sure you know what acting is. Plenty of actors and actresses have zero chemistry, many have great chemistry, age isn't an issue in the same way sometimes a 50yr old guy marries a 22yr old and they stay incredibly happily married for 50 years, and two 25yr olds get married, hate each other after two years and never speak again.

Exactly what age woman that is more suitable to match Cavil would be able to carry off portraying a 100 years old *****? Exactly which actresses have that in their locker due to personal experience and won't need to pretend to be that? None you say.

It's such a crazy complaint.

If she's a good actress, and they've screen tested her with Cavil (which is almost certain) then there is no reason they can't have chemistry.

Almost all shows if and when they pick a lead, will do a read through in casting with the potential cast members precisely to check chemistry. Just because I remember seeing a video of it recently, for the US version of The Office, the people that play Jim and Pam did screen tests with each other and several other potential Jim and Pam's and both came out of the auditions hoping each other would be picked because they felt they had great chemistry. That's generally how casting works so the most likely scenario is this actress was picked because she likely had the best chemistry with Cavil out of the final list of say 3-5 actresses up for it.

Half of the best series around start with no names (or mostly) precisely for the reason that you get better writing and better audience response.

If lets say the guy who plays Jon Snow is cast in this, half the audience can't not see Jon Snow in every scene he does, and then because half the writers are huge fans of Game of Thrones, they start writing lines for that guy to play them as Jon Snow.

A no name actor/actress lets the audience get used to that actress as that one new role and writers don't tend to fall into writing for that persons most prominent character style.

Look at Friends, almost everything Matt Leblanc, half the crap he does is written for Joey as much as him. Aniston plays similar roles in most films. Courtney Cox's character in Cougar Town had similar levels of Monica crazy. Perry plays Chandler in every new sitcom he tries (and they all fail horribly because it's like CHandler in the wrong show).. Pheobe almost always gets quirky characters to play in anything she does.

Non big names is usually best for most of the cast in new shows like these imo.

I would say 30-35 year old would have a lot better chance of performing a convincing portrayal over a 22 year old that is not long out of school with little life/acting experience.

Of course castings always get it right...

A 30-35 year old has a better chance of playing a near immortal sorceress who is 100 years old, or older, who lives in a medieval like period, fighting monsters, because of their life experience.

Yup, I'm sticking with that being a crazy complaint that she's too young.

No one on this planet has had any relevant life experience that would make them better at playing an immortal sorceress who lives in that world, so no one who has been alive longer has more experience or a better shot at playing that role. The only remotely valid argument is a 30-35 year old has more chance of being a better actress than a 22 year old as most people get better at their craft the older they get.

As for the last part, I never claimed casting always get it right, but the idea someone older would automatically have better chemistry is silly and I was pointing out that casting almost certainly tested them together to check they felt comfortable and sensible together. Of course they can get it wrong, but your argument is yet again flawed, because they could just as easily pick the wrong 35 year old woman who is either a bad actress or has no chemistry with Cavil.

i have no problem with the casting - i assume they cast her based on her ability and we will just have to wait and see.
The age difference is a petty minor complaint imo.

What if you said acting experience over life experience, would that make more sense to you?

Why? There are hundreds of examples of 2 leads being separated by a large age gap.

Generally speaking, actors are paid to embody the characteristics of someone else, that's sort of the point :/

Cavil doesn't look too bad tbh. I know the third game put the bearded image in a lot of peoples minds but the clean shaven look is right, not gonna dismiss it on 12 seconds of footage.
