The Worst Official Controller

My PS3 pad could last for years! The only PS3 game I play atm uses a wired arcade stick.

Seriously though if I was playing something a lot (like I was when playing Killzone 2 6 hours+ a day to get max rank) the controller would last around 4-5 days easy.

yes, was exaggerating but battery life is not good and the pad still sux.

The battery life is fine, I have two 360 Elite pads, a DS3 pad, and a SixAxis pad and they all have similar battery life, neither of the current gen pad's 'sux!1!!!!11!!', it comes down to how you prefer to hold the controller, not everyone is a fan of ergonomic design, I'm not a great fan of the 360 controller but I can see that if you prefer to hold the controller the way it's designer intended you to then the pad is perfect (well, apart from the d-pad).

Yet again i ask; do you really feel the PS controllers are the worst ever? If so then i make the assumption you must not have ever touched the SNES, Megadrive or, worse still, the original NES pads. Then there are the less well known abominations such as the philips CDi (iirc?) and jaguar pads, dear god they were shoddy.

Worst controller of this generation? Probably. Worst controller ever? Good god no.

There are some seriously backwards people in this thread! I mean the PS pad is understandably bad for some people but choosing it over some of the old skool pads is just stupid, no offense. I mean look at the NES pad, look at it!!

The point being a lot of people won't have played on these minor and/or old controllers.

So yes I'm going to agree with the Playstation controller being the worse I've played on.

That's fine shami, that's why i haven't nominated the philips cdi or whatever as i've never touched it (though just from looking at it you can tell itd suck). The people i was referring to are those that were actually saying the PS controllers were the worst ever.

As i say, they aren't great for the vast majority so i'm not surprised to see it being nominated as the worst they've tried, but those claiming it is the worst controller ever clearly haven't experienced true rubbish.

Yeah I agree with you there, easy to overexaggerate a controller's shortcomings when you haven't had to use some of the older ones, but saying it's the worse ever is just ridiculous

Yea but Im sure a lot of people have used Nes, Snes, Megadrive, 64 pads etc.

Never have any problem's with the snes or mega drive pad, but we dont have to play to modern games with them, i dont know if i would be so kind if i had to play an fps on one.


I think this is why the ps3 pad is taking a lot of crap in this thread, it's just out of date for the type of game's you trying to play, add to that the cheapy feel and crappy analoge stick's and you can see why people would list it as there worst control ever.

The Sixaxis tops my list for worst modern console controllers. I know there's a 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' ethos involved with Sony, but when the competition actually puts in the effort to evolve their designs and end up being more ergonomically and comfortably sound than yours, surely it would be a good idea to maybe consider revisions to keep up? The controller was a good idea five years ago but not anymore.

I agree the PS3 controller sadness me as its the only reason I dont own a PS3. Worst that i've used would probably be the dreamcast.....sure in retrospect something like the master system or virtual boy was pretty bad but at the time the dreamcast was the one I had trouble with. the grooves on the back where your fingers go was to narrow for me.

For me, the worst would undoubtedly be the N64 controller. I never understood how to play Smash Bros fluidly using that!

i think the sony ps analogue pads are crap but the d-pad is excellent for shoot em up games like R-type and gradius,there also great for mame games... i thought the jag pad was ok to use..

No, I love it.....When "pros" were still playing halo2 on the orginal xbox is was regarded as the better pad over the smaller one.

actually i have used the controller you mention, I still own all those consoles you mentioned except the phillips, and found the controllers to not be a problem at all, the only one you even have a case for is the NES and thats just because the edges were ghastly to hold on to, but the snes and Megadrive controllers were fine.

I still stand by what i said, Playstation worst controller ever.

Nes and Mastersystem pads were too small, They caused hand cramps after playing for a time

PS pad is no way the worst controller EVER
