The Xeon 32xx Quad Core Overclocking Thread...

Not sure how the watercooling would cope with all that in the loop.

I'm hoping that a single 120.1 will do a better job than this titan vanessa I'm using at the moment, if not I'll have to get 2x120.1s (not using dual/tri rads due to how I want my case to look, not cutting it to pieces)

3.5 sounds like a decent enough speed; 14ghz of raw computer power would do me nicely :)

Any indications as to what sort of voltage is required for this speed, and the requisite heat output... wondering if a water loop pairing a quad with a pair of HD2900XTs might be too much for a 3x 120mm Rad

Expect around 1.45v+ if you want stable speeds above 3.2Ghz

I can push 3.4 bench stable but the cpu gets too hot (70+)

I get 250fps in css on de_dust 12x10 everything at max on my system, 200 at stock. :D

Quad needs at least dual 120mm to itself for decent cooling, 120.3 is advised for long term stability and high clocks.

Going to order a new case (v2000b+), some new tubes, bayres and a tube of ceramique when i get home, would order an apogee gtx if i could find one. Should result in lower temps and more clocks.

Will be home soon just finnished 2 exams :)

Depending upon the fan/radiator/pump and block it can be anything from worse than air to better than air with a single 120.1.

What water set-up will you be running?

so for an x-fire setup alongside a quad i'd ideally be looking at dual-loops :s

gonna need to get a bigger case before then, only just managed to squeeze my current kit into my case

Not 100% decided yet, but rad would be almost certainly a thermochill 120.1, have been recomended a Laing DDC-1T Ultra pump.
Water block I am not decided on, I'd been looking at the XSPC x2o block as it fits almost all sockets, but now I have a quad I'll probably splash out on something more pricy.

lay-z-boy

what mobo and mem are you using?

I have got my temps down nicely since buying the kandalf lcs case lol.

down from mid/high 45c to 38c at idle.

and 55c under load.

Edit/Update
im using a bad axe2 with 4gb of g-skill hz6400's
annoyed the bad axe2 doesnt like mem dividers :( cannot run 3:4 or anything else but 1:1

Asus P5K Deluxe

Patriot PC8000 2*512MB 5-5-5-12

God knows why the heck almost every app reads this system as DDR3

Need some updates asap :p

Should be returning the corsair stuff and picking up 2 kits of ocz reaper pc9200, which is currently a steal at ocuk.

:)

Been looking at these.

They are much cheaper and seem to clock very well :)

4 gigs of this stuff?

Much better choice imo, meant to OC like a demon and make much more sense price-wise, especially for 4GB!

Cheers will go with that stuff then, means i can use my currently useless dominator cooler too :p

Thinking of getting one of these puppies. Will a Noctua NH-U12F be sufficient cooling for an overclock of up to 3ghz?

Also, cant decide what mem to pair with it in a p5k deluxe. Wanting 4gb but what will be best for getting a good overclock (not too expensive). Is the crucial pc-5300 stuff really that good?

The 5300 stuff overclocks very well, you can do tight timings, high bandwidth or a mix of both with it.

Should have mine tomorrow to report back. :)

The U12F should cope to ~ 3ghz depending on vcore and room temp/case temp.
