The Xeon 32xx Quad Core Overclocking Thread...

Very close to ordering myself a new set of ram here. Can't get any further than 2.7GHz without having to run my ram at really bad timings and a slower than stock frequency.
The pc5300 ballistix is looking top choice at the moment :)

Returned my Dominators, picked up 2 pairs of the crucial pc5400 ram and

WOW this stuff is great! first boot with all sticks was at 1066 [email protected] :D

Awesome bang for buck! :D

Got some paste and new tubes as well, can now get properly clocking as i now have 2x120.2 rads to use :D

will post my new clocks/benchies soon. :)

well to revive the dieing thread.

Fitted my new gigabyte p35 ds3p lastnight,

also lapped my cpu while i was at it, remounted the tt kandalf lcs to it all and now running 3.52ghz (440mhz fsb) with ram 1:1 and loving it.

Havent had time to test full but idle temps @ 1.4v are 38-40c across the cores.

Load is hitting 61-62c so loving it!!

It also posts at 4ghz!!! but i am in no way going yo whack the volts up to try to get that stable!!

Still learning the gigabyte ways at the moment, and stuck in work now.

Just to re-iterate, i was running 3ghz 380mhz fsb on the bad axe2 with similar temps at much less volts, lol so lapping does seem to make a difference. Also the Gigabyte board is a beast!! :D

I'm seriously looking at getting a 3210 even though I know price cuts are coming etc. Can't wait ha ha..

What are the chances of a 3210 hitting 3GHz without a fight with just air cooling? Something like a Noctua. I really don't want to bother with water solutions.

I reckon that just about all dual cores will hit 3GHz so am I taking a gamble with a 3210?

mine was doing 3ghz on air, temps were not too bad, depends on the cooling you have in your case as well i guess, and what volts are required.

mine was running 3ghz at 1.3v :D which is ace lol

I sure as hell ain't lapping mine, I need the warranty :p

Still getting good temps at 3.2 though (in sig) so I'm not complaining.

I must iterate the point at 3.2ghz this thing DECIMATES my previous X2 @ 2.7ghz :D

lol

i thought i would need the warranty as well, but then i have never heard of a chip failing due to something that i could claim under warranty lol.

I have fried old chips and so on, so thought sod it, then before i knew what i was doing glass pane was on the table wet n dry taped down and the chip was gliding around on it lol

Missus came home and her 1st words were WTF you doing now ya mad bugger lol

Finally got home from uni today and installed my zalman 9700 to replace my old heatsink, whacked my x3210 straight to 2.8 ghz with 1.28v and it booted no problem. The cpu seems to be idling about 33c and max load of 45c as measured in the Ntune Monitor program. max load core temps about 56c as measured in TAT whilst running 4 instances of prime 95 on small FFTs. I think the chip has a max Tjunction of 100c so that seems good to me, and hopefully leaves me some room to push it past 3ghz if i ever feel the need. I'm pretty happy :D

hey up,

Right i used.

300
600
800
1200 (to give it a nice shine)

Thats wet 'n' dry btw. not traditional sand paper ;)

Its not a difficult job. was fun :D lol

oh the ironing...

yes... i have decided i want to lap my core, i seem to constantly get terrible temps now, 40c idle and 50+ at stock

will have a hunt for some sandpaper tomorrow and see what can be done. :)

Decided I'm selling my quad. Twas fun having one, but I've barely made the most of 2 of the cores since coming back from Uni, let alone all 4!

Back to 2 cores for the rest of the summer, will be back with a quad on going back to Uni when I've got to spend a lot of time working in 3dsmax though :)
