Cool post Dup, Type R looks very nice indeed!
Mine's a bit repetitive for the first few but I shall point out the main differences at least...
Started with this, a '78 Triumph Dolomite 1850HL auto. Lovely car, fantastic to drive and absolutely bulletproof. Learnt to drive in this and a Daewoo Lanos, couldn't have got more different really!
However, it really didn't have the performance I wanted, so during a uni term I picked up this:
A 1980 Dolomite Sprint, which Sone on these boards still owns (I think). Sold it not long after purchase due to parking problems - great fun though.
So, fancying something slightly different, then bought up this:
A 1971 Triumph 1500 - an unfinished project of a local nutter. It was originally FWD, yet had the whole powertrain from a Dolomite Sprint fitted, so was running the 2 litre 16 valve engine, overdrive box, the works.
It made a great noise an went like stink, thanks to a fast road cam and Janspeed exhaust but unfortunately was mired with so many issues, that by the time I'd finished building it, reworking it and getting it taxed and MOTed (which were both major excersizes in their own right), I fell out of love with it.
Which is when this came to the rescue :
Given to me by a 25 year old Elvis impersonator (who was very convincing!), this 1500SE provided the ultimate summer hack for me - it was tough, economical, made a good noise and thoroughly enjoyable to hack about in.
With it's MOT looming though, at the end of the year, I decided to press on and get something I really wanted.
......which is where YYD came in:
Originally a 1974 Sprint, it'd had it's 4 pot ripped out and replaced with 3.5 litres of Buick's finest V8, replete with fuel injection, a 5 speed gearbox and uprated suspension amongst other. A rip-roaring little thing, turning in 60 in well under 6 seconds and still returning about 30 to the gallon, I kept it for a long time doing various odd jobs and maintainence - as again, it was another unfinished project.
Despite the fact it had no carpets, little interior refinement and was noisy as hell, I used it as my daily driver for a good 6 months and enjoyed every minute of it!
Eventually it got to the point where I didn't have the time, space or mobility to carry out the further jobs required on it (like various bits of bodywork, suspension rebushing, etc) so I decided to sell it.
I did a lot with it though and thoroughly enjoyed it's company - it's about the only car barring one of my later ones that I genuinely miss.
I'd always wanted a Stag, so I went and bought one of those:
Again, with the Rover 3.5. A great looking car and a riot to cruise about in, however it just didn't hit the spot for me - despite the ladies liking it so much

- so off it went...
