Then / Now / Who Knows!!

1) Has your life turned out how you expected?
Not at all. I think I expected to either be a vet or to be doing something related to conservation. How idealistic was that?

2) Are you pleased that it's turned out this way?
Bit of both. I'm very disappointed that I haven't managed to get a house and move out of the parental home yet, but my I enjoy my job and have found an awesome person to share my life with.

3) Where do you see yourself in 5 more years?
Hopefully with a bit more free cash than we have now. We'll have our own place, and I'd have liked to have been to some of the places we wanted to see. By the time I get to 30 (5 years, ARGH), I guess we'll thinking about marriage and stuff. Christ!!! Better get a move on with the whole 'living' thing.

1) Has your life turned out how you expected?

No.

2) Are you pleased that it's turned out this way?

Yes.

3) Where do you see yourself in 5 more years?

Back home.

I dont know, but deep down i feel like it is a No

Yeap and i have bigger and better plans

More money, doing something uterly crazy, working as a biomedical scientist and finally settled down. :D

lol in 5 years people, a lot of you wont have jobs to go unless they are a few miles away. The world is gonna come crashing down around us and you better be ready.

Hard to say.. to be honest, I only had a vague idea of what I wanted to do career wise, mainly just 'something in IT'. Its only since I got with my prior girlfriend that I finally kicked myself into touch and started looking at myself and my career and started doing something about it, picking up a CCNA qualification along the way.

2) Are you pleased that it's turned out this way?

No regrets to be honest. I'm happy with who I am, and the people I know, the friends I have, and the faith that I have.

3) Where do you see yourself in 5 more years?

Not sure.. married, maybe with a sprog, still not entirely certain career wise. Occasionally get tugs towards christian ministry, but not certain if thats my real ultimate line to walk.

Hi,

Had a pretty crazy year so far and a pretty eventful couple of years really.

5 years ago i'd NEVER have seen me in the job i'm in now and i'd have hoped i wouldn't be in the position i'm in.

I've got aspirations for the next 5 years but who knows??

So my questions are these.......

1) Has your life turned out how you expected?

2) Are you pleased that it's turned out this way?

3) Where do you see yourself in 5 more years?

Oh yeah, feel free to elaborate on your answers........

1) Pretty much.
2) No.
3) Still doing the same work unfortunately.

Ever felt you were stuck in a grind for little or no reward?

1) Has your life turned out how you expected?
No, not in the slightest.

2) Are you pleased that it's turned out this way?
Yes and no. I've met some amazing people and done thing I would never have expected along the way, but I've also lost people and done things I wish I could now change.

3) Where do you see yourself in 5 more years?
Right now I have no reason to make any long-term plans, so I don't even think about it. I'd rather look back in 5 years time and be happy or surprised at what I have achieved than disappointed at what I've failed to do.

1) Has your life turned out how you expected?
Nowhere close, but that's not strictly a bad thing.
I've mostly given up figuring out the 'next' step, things can change so fast and in such an unpredictable manner it's tricky to do so.
Compared to a few years ago I'm an entirely different person, I'm more confident than I used to be (Although nowhere near as confident as I hope to become one day), I've got different priorities in life (right now it's to move out and get a job doing something I enjoy eventually, when a few years ago I would have been content staying at home and in Swansea for a long time to come), I've got a lot more friends than I used to although again I do feel I could do better.
I would hope I'm also a more mature person than a few years back too.

2) Are you pleased that it's turned out this way?
Yes, 3 years back I was a mess. Certainly not that now, and recent events have proven to me that I can get through a fair bit and can handle things better than I used to. I've also got more direction and drive to get to where I want to be in life.

3) Where do you see yourself in 5 more years?
Ideally? I'd like to be in a job I enjoy earning a decent living, living somewhere in England with the man I love and with everything being rosey.
Realistically: I have no idea. Anything can and often does happen unexpectedly. All I can do is work towards what I want and try my very best to achieve them.

Main things I'd like to work on is my confidence and the ability to seize the moment. I take too long and think things through when I'd much rather just do something because I want to do it, instead of worry about what people will think or whether I'll look like an idiot. I generally just need a lot more confidence, as it stands, the main thing holding me back is my self confidence. But I have to try to remind myself that I'm a lot more confident than I used to be and that I'll be even more confident one day.

Hmm didn't expect to write so much :o usually try to keep more private.

Edit: Oh and I forgot. I reallllllllllllllllllllly should have listened and done a different degree than I did. But ah well, can't be helped now.

1) Has your life turned out how you expected?

Going back 5 years, I would probably say yes, as this time 5 years ago, I was rethinking my future, and decided to go for Engineering via College, and now I'm doing Mechanical Engineering at University.

2) Are you pleased that it's turned out this way?

Currently, very pleased with where I am and my current situation. Great social life and groups of friends, my course is generally very rewarding and I'm generally just happy.

3) Where do you see yourself in 5 more years?

5 years? In some sort of Engineering graduate scheme working full time. Where and with who will all depend on some circumstances, which will probably be decided in the coming few months as I am looking for industrial year placements, and some of those jobs could lead to a job at the end of uni, but will depend on who I get a job with. I'm also hoping that a possible longterm girlfriend could develop from a girl I'm in a situation with at the moment, but again, that currently depends on some actions in the coming weeks that may define my future. You'll probably have a post in the coming weeks where I'm totally happy, and I've got a placement secured and I'm with said girl, or I'm totally depressed and have been rejected in all forms :o :p

Sort of.
Not bad.
Out of uni and into a high paying job with my degree, the degree, and the high paying job Im not sure about whether there achievable tho now :\

1) Has your life turned out how you expected?

It has yes, but a good dose of luck, judgement and skill has led to it thankfully. Gonna be flying a commercial jet in 4/5months time, which has been my ambition since I was a nipper, so life's turning out sweet finally. There was a point when I didnt think it would happen, so carried on at Uni for another 3 years with a PhD as that was something I wanted to do, and also sorted out exactly how I'd get to where I am now.

2) Are you pleased that it's turned out this way?

Yup! As its what I wanted ;)

3) Where do you see yourself in 5 more years?

Hopefully as a Captain flying all over the world, living near Bristol with my girlfriend in a nice house, flying my aerobatic plane on my days off and living it up generally! Fingers crossed!

1) Has your life turned out how you expected?
Well I cant really say as I am at college and dont have much choice, but I guess so.

2) Are you pleased that it's turned out this way?
Again, I am doing well at college and hope to continue to do well with a bit of luck.

3) Where do you see yourself in 5 more years?
Hopefully at uni or just finishing and if things go well, looking for a profession (hopefully in the Law.)

Pretty much I always indended to go to college then Uni after school which I did, although I always thought I would do some type of computing degree and end up in a computing type job. Instead I did business and ended un in an investment banking type job

no idea right now so many directions my career could go in.

1) Not really. 5 years ago I honestly expected I'd be a millionaire by now.

2) Yes, certainly. I love what I do.

3) On a yacht, in the Carribean  (we can all dream :p)

1) Has your life turned out how you expected?

5 years ago, I didn't really have any expectations. I've changed my mind on what path I want to take so many times, and I've never been dead-set on one thing until this point, at the age of 21.

It's better to make the right decision now, than to make the wrong decision when I was only 16. At least I've developed many hobbies which will stay with me for the rest of my life.

2) Are you pleased that it's turned out this way?

No; not in the slightest. I'm 21, at home, have no job, no money and £800 of debt.

3) Where do you see yourself in 5 more years?

In 5 years, hmm. Depending on which route to take regarding my final decision, I could be at lots of different stages.

Roughly though, I expect to be in my own house, with a decent £40K sales/marketting/business job and own my own car.

The problem with me is that I'm so god damn lazy. I have absolutely no motivation to get up and do something but I know I really want to do it, at the same time. It's so frustrating and quite upsetting at times :(.

One quote I try to tell myself everyday is one of the best and final quotes of the movie Blow.

Blow said:
Life passes most people by as they're making great plans for it.

Even then, despite my understand and agreeing with that quote, I continue to laze about at home most days.

I will do something. I just need that one thing to go "click", in my mind and I know for certain I'll be dead-set at my career and goals. It's just all this waiting (being lazy) that I can't shrug off.

Anyway, less of my rambling. :)

Phil.
