ive just got a new cpu cooler second hand, and on the copper bit, theres no thermal paste. so obviously i need to buy some, question is which one and how much do i use? do i need liquid metal? and whats the difference between cryonaut and the other one, thanks

You don't need liquid metal, its really only worth it when de-lidding a CPU or other direct die situations, in fact liquid metal can do a lot of damage to certain types of heat sinks.

For the most part there's very little difference between most thermal pastes, I tend to use arctic silver, but really just cos I picked it at random about 15 years ago, and am a creature of habit :P

In most cases you want to use a blob about the size of a small pea or large grain of rice, though with large CPUs like the thread rippers or skylake x chips you'd need a bit more to cover the IHS.
