Thermalright IFX-14: The Next HS King?

Why not? It seems that in most cases it would appear behind the PSU.

In some cases the PSU section is covered - it is in mine anyway, and it's by no mean a small case (Eclipse 62).

If the PSU wasn't covered you'd still have to deal with the cables from it, and maybe wires from optical drives too.

And this pic is making me want to go on a thermal right spending spree! :D :

Almost looks like a little city of towerblock heatsinks.

And am i right in thinking theres already a hsf out there that looks very similar to this new gaffertaped together design? Im sure in some reviews ive seen a very similar hsf.

Zero chance of bitting the back-side cooler in a Lian-LI PC V2000 Plus, the motherboard mounts upside down leaving the CPU socket on 775 boards right next to a non removable metal devider.

You could how ever saw out part of the devider to fit it.

A heatsink is only as good as the airflow in the case or the fan that aids it.
That used to be the case but with heatpipe technology improving and more efficient aluminium fins the ability of a heatsink to near passively dissipate a lot of heat is possible right now.

My X2 4200+ at 2.75GHz system has front and back 80mm case fans running at low RPM and my Big Typhoon has a 120mm case fan which the motherboard often switches it off or at worst case has it running at less than 700 RPM due to low temps making the system ultra quiet. At idle and light use the system is as close to being passively cooled as is possible. The idle/light load temps are very respectable at ~40c core temps, ~49c PWMIC and ~43c chipset. When running games the fans speed up a little to compensate for ~10c core temps increase while the PWMIC and chipset only increase by a few degrees.

The Thermalright HR-05 SLI is the main reason I'm able to have such a quiet overclocked setup.

Looks the business but does it perform?

Just wondering can you actually by any south bridge coolers in a tower style, i cant seem to find them anywhere?

Also any reason OCUK dont stock any South bridge coolers?

The HR-05-SLI Chipset Cooler from Thermalright is the ultimate fanless solution for cooling the Northbridge chip on your SLI or CrossFire Motherboard. For those that wish to overclock, the HR-05-SLI even features an optional mounting for a 70mm fan.

Thats a Northbrigde cooler.

OcUK isn't the only computer shop though..

And yes i know that, it was just a curious question thats all.

I can't see that back side cooler fitting in very many cases.
What is the backside cooler actually connected to? looks like it goes under the ram slots???

Its the back of the cpu socket, its sandwhiched between the board and the back plate holding the main heat sink on.

As people have been saying, I dont see it fitting many cases (the backplate cooler), my Antec p180 wont take it as the boards right next to the top of the case.
