These latest Raptors are fast.

guys, remember hd tach means nothing for real world.

Even cheapo drives, ie 80gb hitachi could easily outperform raptors that have real world strip sizes (32-128k) with a 4k chunk size, you just try raiding something and having a very small chunk size.
But they would be much slower for real use.

However apart from game map loading, i havnt found anything that can measure, easily real world speed. :(

this what i got on a single raptor

Put 4 of them in RAID 0 on an Areca 1220..... simply stunning.....

I just figure out how to set up RAID 0 with 2 hard drive but I have seen test where RAID 0 with 4 HD produce impressive IO result ( almost double 2 HD RAID 0, maybe RAID 0+0 :) ). How is it possible. Is there a need for add in card or on board controller is enough.

Raid 0 is nice for performance buts its bad for fault tolerance. It quadruples the chances of loosing data due to a hardware fault, over four disks.

It'd be interesting to note how many members have actually had a RAID0 failure when using nice new disks.

Personally i did have a 36GB Raptor fail after only four months of ownership that knackered my 2 drive RAID0 array. I seem to remember not being best pleased at the time...

Raptor 150s are noisy when searching - otherwise quiet.

Thats a RAID pair of 150s ^^. :)

What RAID controller are you using, I have 2 Raptors striped and i get an average read of 110 MB/s.

BTW, did you know those new I-Ram things have an average read of 130 MB/s, so your set-up is faster :p

2 x 74GB Raptors (8MB cache WD740GD-00FLA2) in RAID0 on ICH5R controller:

The 16MB, I think, does give a good improvement over the 8MB cache, although the 8MB are certainly no slouches. :)

nForce3 onboard.

My mobo is PCI, so i would be limited by an add on card.

I've actually sold one of my Raptors now tho - and am selling the other. I'm off to Oz and prefer the cash. :)
