Thieves?

So, I was awoken at around 3am by a big bang (I presume it was one of their car doors, or car boot). I had a look outside and saw/heard some polish guys getting out of a car (baring in mind they were right under my window, I recognised a few polish words). Anyway, I watched them for a while and saw them going down every house in the street checking if their back gates were locked. They found one which was open, and proceeded to go in to the back garden and shine a torch into the shed/garage. After they found that both of them were locked, they went out in to the street and started shining their torches in to car windows. I watched them for ages messing around looking through windows etc, and then they got in their car and drove off. Funny thing is, I recognise 2 of them as being residents at the end of my road! Now, I didn't call the police as they didn't really do anything like break in, but is it worth me calling them today and reporting what I saw?

Going into someone's back garden sounds like trespassing. I'd report that asap before someone does get burgled.

might be a good idea, set up a home cctv just incase too, or stand by your back gate with a bat

They might be Bulgarians posing as Poles. It happens more often than you'd think.

If I had seen them with a hammer or the likes ready to break in then sure, I would have called immediately.

Edit: Also I'm sure it would be a case of "No damage done, no crime here" by the police anyway.

lol. So the people the OP saw speaking Polish were actually Bulgarians trying to trick people who may be spying out there window?

It's better to be cautious and ring the police anyway. I'd let the situation dectate if it was the emergency number or not.

Do they just stand very still holding power cables over their heads?

Should really have called the Police last night, if they'd have sent a car over they probably would have been able to get them for 'going equipped' even if they didn't actually break in anywhere last night.

Don't forget that eastern european languages are a bit similar (some worlds are the same) and you can be mistaken that they were polish, however they could but still this doesn't mean that all poles are bad.

But they had gone on to private property and was looking to break the law.

I mean the time you had released they had nicked something it would have been to late.

Or perhaps a case of "OK so we know the residents here are alert to us so we won't rob them".

One day you may well be their target and i'm sure you wouldn't like your neighbours to stand and watch whilst they check out your car/shed/letter box.

Do the decent thing and tell the police, that way if they decide to break in, the police will put two and two together and if you warned them a few days earlier then they might be the first ones they call on once a crime is reported.
