I thought it was only one thread a month?

If any thread warrants being accused of spam its the "This Instant & Moment" thread imo.

Don't get Gilly started on This Instant & Moment, even the fact that the title is tautologous irritates him... I'd be quite happy to lose that one as well but again it serves the purpose of keeping much of the somewhat trivial posting in one place.

Little point in banning them if you go by popularity (viewing figures):
Snipped for space

Is popularity a valid substitute for the more subjective measure of worth? I'd argue not, just because something is popular doesn't mean it has much in the way of merit. However as I said earlier while I wouldn't be shedding a tear if those threads disappeared I'm not particularly in favour of getting rid of them.

Why does it even matter? Jesus.

You're (possibly) being given a chance to influence forum policy - some will complain that they're given a choice and others will complain when they're not given a choice. It seems that the saying about not pleasing all of the people all of the time is still true.

I genuinely don't understand why it merits so much discussion. It's one thread on a forum....If you don't like then surely you don't have to click it? The content isn't offensive, it keeps things compact and is something people obviously like to talk and share.

If we started questioning every thread we'd end up with an empty forum!

Popularity is pretty much the defacto measure of worth. We try to trivialise it when we do not agree, but it's basically the only reason London property or apple gadgets have such a value, because worth is based on popularity vs scarcity.

In reality if the moderators get their way, they'd kill the forum because without the popular threads, nobody would come back. It's not that I disagree with you, we all get bored of seeing the same thread happen for the 200th time, but show me a forum of value that doesn't have repeat threads and isn't very new.

That said, I don't care for these specific threads. I get over it by not clicking on them.

I'm fine having them monthly. It means a new thread per month, but so what? That isn't exactly the end of the world, is it? Means everything is nice and simple, easy to find, and months down the line you don't end up with a thread full of broken images.

I like reading them because it gives me purchase ideas...but i hate that its become a status thing to try and get the new one each month :o

Keep them to one big recent purchases thread and be done with it.

If OCuk banned all the threads that I didn't like, there wouldn't be much left. :p

It seems stupid but harmless to me.
