things to do in glasgow

Why do so many of the members here have a poor view of my home town? I'd be willing to bet that the majority of negative posters haven't even been in Glasgow.

Anyhoo, what to do? Best shopping in the UK outside of London, best restuarants in the UK outside of London, loads of quality bars and clubs, Kelvingrove Museum and Kelvingrove park, the Botanic Gardens, the Burrell Collection and Mugdock Country Park to name but a few. You could also take a look at the finest Victorian and Baroque architecture in the UK.

Take a wander down Byres Road for little quirky shops and superb little eateries (and the University Cafe for the best ice cream in the UK). The Botanic Gardens, the Museum of Transport and Kelvingrove Museum and Park are all pretty close to there too.

Buy some bottle of buckfast. It tastes like what i imagine 1/3 vinegar 1/3 sulphuric acid and 1/3 cheap red wine tastes like.

I met a load of scottish people in ibiza on san an beach who were drinking it and it was nasty. Great people mind, if you ever read this, its alex whos coach was due in 2 hours.

One of my old housemates was from Hamilton, he sometimes used to drink Buckfast.
God awful stuff, really don't know how he liked it.

Haha Hamilton......lovely place this is!!

Glasgow is ok if you stick to the right area to be honest. The west end has no end of fancy restaurants and wine bars. Sauchiehall street for the usual clubs and studenty places.

Yesterday when i was coming back from the girlfriends in town i was walking down argyle street towards the barrowlands when some scummy junkie was shouting at some guy saying "Aye turn roung ya *****" n proceeded to pull out a half empty bottle of bucky to weild at the other guy.

thanks for the replies guys, loads of options there. wouldnt mind checking the art gallaried out myself, then a spot of food and shopping

If you can grab an Evening Times tonight, it has listing for clubs, gigs and all sorts of stuff. The Chinese State Circus is about somewhere tomorrow (Kings Theatre?) which looks pretty cool.

Can definitely recommend Kelvingrove, went today to see the Kylie exhibition. It's on until 14th Jan and free, worth a look, wish i'd been about to see more but had done the burrell collection as well and was getting tired.

You're a git, that was my line if I'd been several hours earlier. :p

I'm from Edinburgh, I'm legally and morally obligated to slate Glasgow at every possibly opportunity. I expect no less in return. ;)

Actually, in fairness, I haven't spent that much time in Glasgow but I do mean to head back again at some point soon if I can. I have at least heard that it can be a very good night out there. :)
