Things to see and do in Buxton

Being a Buxton'er I can't tell you the number of times I've had to ruin people's holiday trips by telling them the Crescent is derelict and no, you can't stay there. Buxton is a lovely place to look at but it's developed a nasty drug problem, stay out of the nightlife and fairfield, stick to just travelling around the local area and looking at stuff. Pretty much everything you can do has been mentioned, the opera house is excellent, and I don't think anyone has mentioned Solomon's temple, consider a walk there through Grin Low woods if that's your thing. If you're an avid caver there are some fantastic caves to explore as well, not just Poole's cavern. While you're around, pretty much any place in the Peak district is sure to look lovely, when it's not raining, which is basically never.

Buxton is great if you're a looker, not so much if you're a do-er.

I gigged their twice last year, great night and they have a big room with a rock disco that tries to emulate the days of The Highwayman (which you probably haven't heard of).

I can second this, if you're looking for a great rock night, the winking man never fails to provide. I've heard very good things about the highwayman but I never managed to go before it closed, shame :(

Also, the Buxton water fountain is opposite the crescent if you fancy trying lukewarm bottled water.

While I love Buxton, I don't miss the increasing prevalence of drugs and scrotebags as of late, and I think it's lost all value as a place to live. The main thing I miss is the tap water, how do you southerners survive on this... stuff?! :p

Heard of them yes but dunno what there music is like. :D:D

:D
The Highwayman was a famous rock disco in Cheadle and if you go to places like Lloret and Benidorm you will see bars that claim they are The Highwayman.

My mates are having their album launch tonight in a club in Stoke and after they are having a Highwayman 'themed' rock disco.

This has got to be one of the worst sites ever so apologies - http://www.the-highwayman.co.uk/index.html
