Where's the option for no milk?!

You don't need one, the question is when you should remove a teabag from tea with milk, if you don't have milk then the entire question is redundant. And simply put, tea without milk just tastes odd, at this point you are only one step away from drinking herbal teas and no-one wants to be 'that guy'.

The answer to the question should be obvious, you remove the teabag before adding milk, you've already got the tea to the desired strength so leaving the teabag in is just unnecessary.

I can't actually think of any everyday skills I should have but don't, usually if I've needed it then I've learned it. I don't know how to rebuild an engine for instance but then again I've never needed to.

i have a friend that puts the milk in with the teabag before adding the water.
after adding the water, he stirs it for about 20 seconds and takes the bag out.

its disgusting. it looks like... eurg, weak tea. :(

if he makes me a cup (like that) i just pour it down the sink.

proper way of making tea:
  1. place PG-Tips in cup
  2. add freshly boiled water to cup
  3. stir for 10 seconds, then wait for 2 minutes
  4. remove bag
  5. add milk till the tea has the right sound and colour (stir while adding the milk)

has anyone else noticed that tea has a different sound (when tapping the cup with a spoon) depending on its milk content?

proper way of making Earl Gray tea:
  1. place 2/3 teaspoons of leaves in pot (depending on size).
  2. add freshly boiled water to pot
  3. stir for 10 seconds, then wait for 3 minutes
  4. add desired quantity of milk (no more than 1% of cup volume)
  5. pour tea into cup and stir.

Proper way of making black China tea:
  1. add leaves to cup
  2. add freshly boiled water to cup
  3. leave to steep for 1 minute (this is important, the leaves must settle)
  4. drink tea

Milk after taking teabag out! Pouring boiling hot water on the bag brings all the tea out. Sitting it in cold milk seems to prevent it stewing. Major fail. I was a student once so I'm definitely right when it comes to tea :p

  • what you said in your previous post and
  • what i JUST said in my post?

True. It should have a little milk in it though... technically. Hence "grey" colour.

actually, it's named Earl Grey because the 2nd Earl Grey, Prime Minister of Britain received a gift of Tea from Asia, which was scented and flavoured with bergamot. it was liked so much that it was named in his honour.

I know that. Wiki-lover :P

The grey colour is a coincidence. As it DOES look grey with milk (and tastes vile) cf http://www.answers.com/topic/earl-grey-tea.

I can help you with that.

Boil kettle, put teaspoon of coffee in cup, insert hot water and stir.

Put more or less coffee in if you like it stronger/weaker. Insert milk if thats your thing.

I know everything and no one can teach me anything, i am spartacus.

I have not read the rest of this thread, so this may have been pointed out, but this is completely wrong.

First, never use BOILING water to make coffee. It sours the taste and leaves you with a yucky brew.

Secondly, milk goes in BEFORE the water, otherwise you risk curdling the milk. This can also be a quick fix to point number one as the milk will cool the temperature of boiling water.

I only found out how to make a cup of coffee in the summer.
I don't drink it and had never had to make it myself before then :p

I've been drinking tea for years though!

Tea should never be made in a cup. Teapots were invented for a reason.

If you must make it in a cup then you should always always always remove the teabag before you apply the milk. :p

Basic life skills, I'm fine. I'm 42 years old and have been living on my own for 11 years - I can do everything I need to be able to do.

As a man, I feel I'm supposed to know about cars and stuff and be able to tell the difference between a MkI Golf GTI and a MKII Golf GTI passing by at 70 MPH just by the sound of the engine - I can't and I have no yearning to know stuff like that. Cars are red or black or white and some go fast and some don't - that's good enough for me.

On to the other stuff. Teabag (Twinings English Breakfast) out before milk and not too much milk or you'll not taste the tea - listen to me, I'm middle aged and I've been making tea since I was 8 so do as I tell you :p Better still, use leaf tea - you'll be surprised at the difference.

My best advice for instant coffee is to throw the rank, disgusting stuff in the bin and buy a filter machine - you can get them from Argos for £6.00. I despise instant coffee with a passion, in case you hadn't noticed ;)

:D Sitting here with a massive smile on my face reading my mate Bigstans post.
He is right so you all listen, us 42 year old multi yeared batchelors know a thing or to :p
I'm blanking him when it comes to motors though as i believe a man should be able to do Anything, it's how we conquered the planet after all. I can strip a motor to nuts & bolts & put it back together again & have been able to since Before i left school. I started with push bikes, then mopeds, then trials bikes, then road bikes & scooters then cars.
Anyway as far as the tea goes when using Teabags it has to be Teabag on its own then teabag binned & then add milk. Years ago the only reason milk was added first was to stop the fragile china cups everybody used breaking & not actually for the taste. See i told you us oldys know a thing or two ;)
