I could probally help you get the 2500K CPU to 4.8GHz if it still works and 4.6GHz on Auto Volts using power saving features if it's a similar motherboard to mine.

Tried it in the MSI board with some spare sticks of RAM and it won't post not even a beep. Probably can't rma it as I got it from another e-tailer and their website states everything must be returned in it's original packaging, it was a retail cpu and I don't have the intel box anymore.

Do you still have the receipt? I would give Intel a call tomorrow see what they say, they will either day yes or no, won't know if you don't try.

Just tell them you have tried CPU in another system and it doesn't work, thats all you have to say on the matter.
 
I've got a new 2500k retail cpu being delivered tomorrow which I'll run at stock speed, I'll try to rma the dead one and if successful I can try to sell the replacment cpu on the bay

Installed the new cpu and the mobo and RAM are ok. Got the cpu running at stock speed not worth trying to clock it higher.
 
People RMA'ing things that they killed on purpose by applying stupid amount of voltages?

Thanks for driving the prices up for the rest of us.

INTEL made $3.7 BILLION Profit over the last year.

I know it's too late now, but don't listen to anyone muppeting on about moral values etc, it cost you £150+ that CPU, yes you made big mistake but I doubt your a billionaire or a millionaire who can afford to lose money like that.
 
LOL, burnt out & physically broken CPU reminds me a joke.
A devil gave to Ruskey 2 small *metal* balls saying he will be back tomorrow. So tomorrow comes, devil comes back to Ruskey and asks for 2 balls... so Ruskey says.. sorry... one of them... I've lost.. and second one... I broke ;-)
