Just putting together a cheapy rig for a friend.
Board is an MSI G31M3F and I have installed the Realtek audio drivers but there is nothing in taskbar at all.
I have tried updating them, unistalling everything.
onboard sound is enabled in bios, but that makes no difference.
I have run out of idea's now does anyone have any suggestions so I cant get the thing out of my way as it has been a pain from start to finish and I want to see the back of it.

check device manager see if its listed but not working, if not then the board chip is faulty.

thought the 3850 HDMI had overwrit it, but dont have that neither, no speaker icon at all in taskbar

Argh this is annoying. I had this exact problem on my last build, but I can't bloody remember how I fixed it! :o

Have you tried control panel -> sound and audio devices -> device volume -> advanced?

tried unistalling these two yellow PCI devices and installing again, but windows cant find any drivers for them

when you enabled sound on the bios did you say yes to saving it.
Yep I am gonna disable it and see if the two yellow marks on pci device go away in device manager its worth a try.
It got rid of one of them, but still have another.

no audio device, all I have is legacy audio drivers

Nope downloaded a UAA driver (HP one) installed it, looked in device manager under system devices not listed there, installed realtek drivers still no sound card installed.
What a nightmare.

Which operating system?

Do you also own an ATI video card with built in audio?

Can you take a screenshot of your device manager and post it here?

Did you uninstall the drivers, did you look for the UAA driver before you downloaded the latest one?

Get the full UAA and audio drivers directly from Realtek.

Win XP sp3
3850 with hdmi driver installed but that not working.
looked for UAA before downloading latest one, was not there.
the two yellow icon are listed under other devices
