Thinking about ditching the PC

Logical, considering you're paying 4x the price at least.

So then how can his system not be beat

Even Sony's lead architect has said you need at least 8 tflops to play 4k properly, the PS4 Pro uses checkerboard rendering to fill in the gaps because of the lack of power. Even new Xbox will only have 6 tflops, so I don't see how you can consider console gaming for anything other than budget gaming.

Try and follow the thread mate, it's not difficult.

It's fairly obvious consoles wouldn't be able to do 4K, and just scaling up to 4K. Same for PS3/Xbox they couldn't do 1080p either, just 720P or 1080p in some games but lower framerate/scaled textures.

PS5 should be able to do 4K though, but how many years is that away? But you could game on 4K now with a PC, although you're going to have to get a pretty good machine. But I can't see it too long before you will able to play games at 4K, with high settings at 60+fps.

Who cares how powerful pcs might be when they aren't getting the best exclusives ? :)

Happy to be on console. Especially for the price. Picked up my PS4 pro for 305. And couldn't be happier.

Well do you have a PS4 exclusive on Xbox? And vice versa? Or do you get PC exclusives on either console.

"Especially for the price."

Are you happy about price of console games, requiring a gold account to play online, that servers for games are shut off after a while? I can no longer play online on GT on PS3. And are you happy having to buy multiple controllers?

I rarely game online.

I'm more of a story driven game sort of player.

And I only have one controller. Lol.

Admittedly the games are more expensive on console at launch. But if price bothers you, either rent it, or borrow it off a friend once they're finished with it. Or wait for a sale I guess.

Well I have a Logitech G25, that works on the PC. It works on PS3. But it won't work on Xbox. So if I want to play Forza 3/4 on Xbox, I'd need to buy a steering wheel & pedals for Xbox. So that's another £125+

And within a generation those wheels probably won't be supported on the next gen console.

However my G25 will work on much older PC's and new generation PC's.

Also there are plenty of free to play MP games on PC. World of Tanks, War Thunder, World of Warships etc

Or just use the controller that came with said Xbox ? :p

Playing racing games with a wheel setup isn't compulsory. I use the controller with forza and it works a treat.

Edit. All those free to play multiplayer games are available on PS4 too.

Playing on a wheel is 10x better. Also once you start using race cars, a wheel is much easier for control.

No problem with controller (PS3/Xbox) with Honda civics but once you get LM car....forget it.

I play on PC mostly and have a desk setup, but my monitor is a 42" TV and I have a sofa behind the desk with a big footstool for when i want to play a 3rd person/racing game with a pad. Works very well for me. If you could do something like that then keep the PC imo, but if not and you don't want to play at a desk then consoles sound like the best solution.

I have just gone back to PC gaming after a 6 year break and im glad im back but i am limiting myself to what i currently do, i have the PC setup in the living room connected to a 55" TV and with an Xbox One controller for almost all gaming makes it a very similar situation to console gaming but also opened a world of older games that never looked great on console that i can now play in 1080.

I was very happy as a console only gamer but the PC was a family purchase so i wouldn't of gone out of my way to get it and i know i wont be upgrading for a good few years but if a new console comes out i will eventually pick that up within a year or so of launch.

one main difference is PC gaming has much more distraction too it, another thing i am limiting myself with but i try and install atleast a HD res pack and controller support for older games i am playing.

I know what you mean but I'm not basing it on spec for spec. Sat on my sofa with a pad, no hassle, big screen, great graphics and sound is what's hard to beat.

Don't blame people for switching to consoles now, specifically the ps 4.

Years ago the PC was superb and leagues ahead of consoles but there isn't much in it these days imo:

- PC ports/releases are an after thought, so many titles over the last year or 2 have been released in a broken state for the PC (just look at batman arkham knight, WB/rocksteady handed a small time studio the PC version, that just shows how much they cared about the PC version...), not just in terms of optimisation etc. but also gameplay mechanics i.e. bf 1 gun/infy play
- graphics are barely much better, especially with the ps4 pro. PC graphics used to be significantly better than the consoles, heck when developers only have to make the game for one platform, it even looks better than the majority of multiplatform/PC titles maxed out i.e. uncharted, last of us, horizon zero dawn
- PC market is getting more expensive (hopefully this will change now that AMD seem to be competitive again...)
- PS 4 has got so many good exclusive titles

Only things that really keep me with PC for now are:

- cheaper games generally
- 21.9
- better/more stable/consistent performance
- easier and better for online play imo

You must be lucky, everytime me and my mate want to try something new/online on the PC it seems to be a right faff. Forwarding ports, Firewall rules, not being able to connect to each other, third party chat apps (discord etc) it just generally seems a PITA these days to game with friends on PC.

PS4 on the other hand. Hold in the PS button. Create a party chat. Talking within seconds of being online. Some PS4 games pickup you are already in a party and make it even easier to join games.

Maybe we're just getting old.

(context: we've been PC gaming since the mid 90's so were experienced with PC/hardware/software etc)

What about running out of space on the PS4 even though you have 100GB free ;-)

Can't say I have ever had any issues with this unless my internet has been the cause of the problem or/and the game servers etc. but this would also affect consoles.

My PC is coming of an age where I may need to think of upgrading in the coming year. A worthwhile step up would mean probably spending £6-700 on CPU, Mobo, Memory. That is not even close to being justifiable when I already have a PS4 and quite honestly the graphics are just fine (great in some cases). The exclusives help as I have loved TLOU and Uncharted as well.

PC Gaming is for those with disposable income, which thanks to mortgage and baby I do not have anymore.

All my future titles will probably be purchased on the PS4.

Just realised I can play Killer Instinct on my recently updated PC so downloaded it. Joystick doesn't work and need xinput or some crap. Sigh, this is exactly why I get annoyed at PC these days...
