Thinking about getting a Steam link

Gonna have to disagree with that. No pad is as accurate as a mouse and ive tried to make the pad work in games like cs:go but it's just miles off the pace, the guy in that video even said "you can sort of aim on it fairly accurately" when trying to shoot that van window. You'd already be dead if you were playing against a K&M player :p

I just think that buy missing out on the second stick we are forced to try and find an inferior solution to a problem that a second stick would have solved.

Add a stick, sort the triggers out (and increase the force needed to activate the dual stage trigger buttons as it's waay too easy to press them) and I'd buy it day 1.

Ok maybe "as good as a mouse" was a little of an ambitious claim, but certainly better than a dual stick game pad.

I play many games using the steam controller, and once you are used to it and it is set up correctly find it as good as an xbox controller.

Dont get me wrong though if they could find somewhere for another stick also (I would like to keep the track pads) then it would be excellent

I got the steam link + controller but have to admit im kinda disappointed.

I had envisaged myself sprawled on the sofa playing mass effect and so on but I cant get it to work :(

There hasn't really been a single game where I sat down and thought it worked well. The link itself is fine and the quality through my wired connection is excellent however the controller is something I just cant get used to atm

Why not ditch the steam controller and use a 360 one? I understand wanting to be able to play mouse games etc with the steam controller but it sounds like more hassle than its worth

Yeah, first person games I still sit at my pc for. 3rd person or 2D games Are great on the link with xb360 controller. Not yet tried to attach a mouse+kb to the link for FPS's, don't have wireless kit but wired should be fine for occasional use.

I "Steam linked" my computer to a cheap laptop with an XBOX 360 controller on a 46" TV, it was AWESOME! I'm going to get a second hand one over christmas for sure :)

I've opted for a PS4 controller instead. Reasons being that I don't plan on spending hours and hours using the Link and so not too fussed about the customisation. just want something that myself or others can hop in and out of without having to get used to anything.

I will be using mine on a wired network and have already got a couple of 360 Joypads. I mostly ordered the controller because it was a good price as a bundle and I'm curious. If I don't get along with it it's no big deal :)

I really like the Steam Controller. It's not always perfect but it has a lot of flexibility and in many types of games I think it's a genuine improvement over dual analog stick controller.

I do wish more games supported using simultaneous mouse input from the touch pad and gamepad input from the rest of the controller, without button prompts in the UI changing constantly. The Witcher 3 does it perfectly, it even has graphics for Steam Controller buttons promps. I've not played another game that does it yet though.

Op, apologies for hijacking but thought I would ask here instead of starting a new thread.

Can a Steam Link be used as a makeshift media streamer from the PC?

Regarding the controller, I got one on a day 1 pre-order and sent it back. Mileage may vary depending on personal preference and the games you play. Is it a great replacement for 360 controller, NO. Great replacement for keyboard and mouse, not really.

Personally, I found it to be a jack of all trades, master of none. AGAIN, my personal opinion.

I also found the build quality to be below par, felt too plastic for the amount they were charging.

So a related question, I'm currently utilising HTPCs with at least 1st gen Core i5s running them. I plan to use in home streaming and wondered whether the performance of these (Windows 10, 4GB Ram, SSDs etc.) would exceed the link or whether a Steam Link will provide a more consistent experience? Everything is routed through physical 1GBe connections via my HP Procurve 48 port 1gbe switch.

What a coincidence, i picked one of these up from Game at lunchtime today :)

Using my PS3 pad on it, had a couple of issues setting it up (had to install 3rd party driver for it to pair with my Bluetooth dongle), but nothing major; took about 30mins of fiddling, and The Witcher 3 doesn't work with sweet/reshade enabled which is a bit of a pain. Other than that it seems to be working perfectly (the 30 mins or so I had on it before my gf wanted the TV back :p)

I just wish there was some sort of agent that runs on the host pc so you can turn on big picture mode remotely from the steam link. Unless there already is and I'm missing something??

If you have steam running on the host then doesn't connecting the Link launch Big Picture automatically?

Me too, nice price :)
Mind you, I bought it even after the sales guy told me only the Steam controller was compatible and I couldn't use a mouse/keyboard. He even asked another member of staff to confirm!

I have a wireless mouse/keyboard remote thingy (Rii N7) which worked as soon as I plugged it in

Had another few hours playing on it, only the Witcher 3 so far, but it works great; I was a bit concerned about input lag, but very happy to be completely wrong - it's not noticeable at all (wired network through homeplugs). I did notice a minor amount of compression artifacting at times, but i changed the streaming mode from "balanced" to "beautiful" which almost completely got rid of that, with no perceivable change in performance

I actually haven't used the steam link or controller as much as I thought I would. I guess I just need the right game on it. I have given up with the controller tbh and my wireless 360 controller has too much lag on it.

As others have said, wired is a must. I use wall links.

Does anybody know how long these take to be delivered? Ordered it a few days ago and apart from a confirmation email I have no indication when it will be delivered?

I'm also planing on using a couple of wireless 360 controllers and a Logitech K400 media keyboard with it, is it simply a case of plugging the Microsoft Wireless adaptor and Logitech dongle in to the USB ports on the Link?

So far I'm impressed with the ease of set up and interface.
Went for a Lan connection and had no problems with mouse and keyboard, worked straight away.
Performance in game is good with no noticeable lag with the graphics, looks superb on a big 4k telly! :)
Only problem I have is sound lag, but only in one game so far. I've just tried two games actually. Bioshock - sound lag. Fallout 4 - no sound lag.
Is this a known problem?

Oh, and the web browser is pants.

I use my steam link with kodi daily, add kodi as a non steam game and away you go. Regarding your 1440p issue, In your steam link options (on the link it's self) you can choose the streaming resolution to the TV/Monitor in my case it's to an upstairs TV and a 900p resolution, works like a charm

I've had a few tinkers with my SteamLink. My DS4 v2 connects just fine. The controls are just a bit screwey. I've only really tried Battleblock Theater which expects a 360 controller and yep, doesn't work too great.

I've tried using a few of the DS4 Tools but they do not recognise the controller. So I'm struggling at the moment.
