Thinking about getting a Steam link

Does the steam link operate like in-home streaming? i.e. is the content you are playing mirrored from your desktop? I am tempted but would like to be able to use my main PC for something while someone else is using the steam link.

Anyone had any issues setting up their steamlink? I think it may be because my computer is hardwired into the router and the steamlink is connected via wireless? Otherwise I've no idea what's up with it and the troubleshooting is no use :(

Came here just now to ask for any input from people with a Steam Link.

I connected mine up to give it a go last night and after 30mins I gave up because I could not be bothered. I spend all day fixing IT rubbish I can't be bothered with this.

All combinations of wired/wireless both SL and laptop.
Reset to factory settings. Patched up to date.
Ensured stream is enabled in Steam, patched and restarted laptop.
Set static IP in SL, confirmed showing OK on Sky Hub.
Can ping the SL from laptop on all combinations of wired/wireless.
Disabled Defender monitoring and AV in Win10.

Still 100% fail rate on getting SL to find "host computer".

Running Win10 fully patched to date including anni update etc. SL is connecting to the net as I have patched it also.
Anyone with similar issues and got this thing to work?

Hummmm. I've got Win 10 and SL, all up to date working fine. But they're both wired in.

The only trouble I'm having is getting DSTools to notice I have my Dualshock 4 V2 plugged in.

Silly question but do you have steam turned on on the laptop? tried going in big picture mode?

hehe yep! Steam is running, patched up and toggled the streaming option on and off with multiple restarts of the steam client on laptop also. Steam client is functioning perfectly on the laptop itself.

I have not tried putting it into big picture mode manually on the laptop, no. Anything worth a punt at this point though I guess so will give it a go although not sure it will resolve problem.

In the steam settings there is a list box for connected clients but the SL is not showing there either.

FWIW, I just fixed mine. Router needed a hard reset as despite computer working on the internet etc it didn't list it as a connected device, rebooted and it showed as a connected device. Powered up the steam link and voila it worked :)

That said, it really is unplayable over wifi (only a thin wall separating router from the link) so it's being shelved until I get around to fitting network cables around my home - ie when I can get the cash together for a decent POE switch & cabling :)

Okay, I'm requesting help!

I have a DS4 controller. I have InputMapper installed on my machine and I can play with the controller locally perfectly.

However, when using through my steamlink, obviously, InputMapper doesn't have a clue about the controller and therefore doesn't do all of its cool stuff to get the controller to work perfectly. The controls are all screwed.

Has anyone found a way around this?

Op, apologies for hijacking but thought I would ask here instead of starting a new thread.

Can a Steam Link be used as a makeshift media streamer from the PC?

Regarding the controller, I got one on a day 1 pre-order and sent it back. Mileage may vary depending on personal preference and the games you play. Is it a great replacement for 360 controller, NO. Great replacement for keyboard and mouse, not really.

Personally, I found it to be a jack of all trades, master of none. AGAIN, my personal opinion.

I also found the build quality to be below par, felt too plastic for the amount they were charging.

Add kodi as a non steam game and away you go, I use it all the time
