Thinking about getting Nintendo DSi

Stop talking about piracy when you know the rules. It's getting boring now and suspensions will be handed out if it continues.

please don't suspend me mod. oh i forgot......................your not a mod, dont tell them what to do, thats up to the MODS. EPIC FAIL.

Can't quite tell if you know what an Underboss is or not,

Anyhoo, he's basically a assistant mod (read tea lady) but still, he maintains the rules

Don't get a DSi.

Get a DS Lite, it's got a better screen, support for Gameboy games, and although you might look a plank, Guitar Hero for the DS is quite entertaining. But you can't play it on the DSi.

I mean seriously, you can get DS Lites now for £60-70. Why would you pay the extra for a smaller screen, a crap camera, and less game support?

The DSi is a waste of space really, Nintendo simply did it to cash in on the popularity of the franchise.

#1 The screen on DSI is much better imo and the .25" makes all the difference.

#2 If you really want to play GBA games then DS lite is the preffered choice but I've never played them since I got the original DS.

#3 guitar Hero DS is good but not worth making the choice over.

The DSi isn't a waste of space, I'm quite glad of the upgrade whether or not they're milking it, I'm finding due to the large screen, quality of the build & GUI that I'm playing it a lot more than my DS Lite.

If you can afford the DSi then by all means it is worth it depending on your reasons, The DSi can be had for around £130 brand new and the DS Lite can be had for £90-£100 new, if you can find a second hand DSi then i'd take that over the lite.

OP I wouldn't bother with a screen protector, I bought a Hori screen protector when I bought my DS Lite and Guitar hero and within a week it was all smudged, scratched and the overall quality wasn't worth it considering it was about £6. I'd just carry a microfiber cloth around with you to clean the screen with, works wonders. (and yes it was an official Hori screen protector from a reputable seller ;D)

dsi has the larger screen

it has more game support than the ds. i.e. it can play ds/dsi games. you will be able to download dsiware http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DSiWare

Will it not get scratch easily without screen protector?

Not really, I've got no scratches on my DSi screen, I'm careful though and never use my fingers and only ever use the stylus. If you clean it every now and again the screen will be fine, It's quite durable.

Sorry but it really doesn't. There's nothing wrong with the DS Lite screen and a quarter of an inch is barely noticable. :)

Really? You should, I took the chance to get some old GB games and give them another go. There are some real classics.

Making the choice? No. But it's another thing. Suddenly I can't use a game I paid money for.

None of these things are an improvement over the DS Lite. It's not like the older model falls apart on a whim or dies (a la XB360) so where's the problem?

But then a second hand DS Lite would tip the balance back in it's favour.

I'd say it's worth considering if the prices were closer.

Personal preference but I noticed a difference when I bought my DSi and love the screen and build quality.

To be honest, I tried some old GBA games but I couldn't really play them, I've got an old SP if I've ever got the urge to play some GBA games but I doubt I will when their is so many good DS games I've yet to play.

I played GHOT when I went on holiday, was pretty good but I eventually got bored of it and was getting cramps in my hand for playing it too long, thats about the only time I ever used the slot.[/QUOTE]

I didn't say it was an improvement I said I found due to the fantastic GUI, built quality (tactile buttons) and feel of the device I found myself playing my DS more.

But then a second hand DS Lite would tip the balance back in it's favour.

It all depends on your reasons, I had a chance to try it before I bought it and loved it. I'm waiting for Nintendo to wise up and release GB classics on the DSi ware store, my DS Lite couldn't play GB games so this was something that I'm waiting for (they've got the tech to do it)

The lower battery life does annoy me somewhat but I'm more than happy with the device which warrants the purchase, certainly playing it a lot more than the DS Lite.

all in all it boils down to.

If you're not going to use the DS all that often then I'd go for the Lite, but if you love playing handhelds and you play it more than consoles I'd go for the DSi.
