Thinking about going on a Cruise

I can't think of anything worse (no offence :p) than a cruise. Being on a floating food court/ shopping mall seems like a total waste. With barely any time to see the places you stop at, or just the port areas, you just are floating about. Why even travel to other places? Just sit just outside Portsmouth and be done with it.

I just think of old people who can't fathom the logistics of organising a real holiday.

IMO, of course :p

This is what I thought too until I did one (see my link above)

I found it to be the opposite of what you said even though I had your opinion at first.

I saw 7 places in 11 days (Casablanca > Tenerife > Funchal > Malaga > Civitavecchia > Genoa > Barcelona) and a day is enough to see most of those places and take it in. Visiting all those places in such a short period of time is great, by the end of you really feel as if you've seen a ton.

Loved my cruise :)

That's fair. I haven't done one, so it's totally unfounded as an opinion ha but that's what stops me from doing on. I can see the appeal, just think I'd freak out at the lack of ability to just make your own agenda, in terms of what you can do (outside ship wise).

Did a cruise in the med a few years back, surprisingly good!
Food was nice, and the stops that we did were great especially for younger minds with shorter attention spans.

I use to think this as well but now I have been on 5 or 6 cruises and it is completely different. In fact the worst kind of holiday I can think of now is being stuck in one place!

With a cruise you wake up in a 5 star hotel with a different view from the balcony every morning. Having 6 - 10hours in one location is more than enough time to see a place. Rarely are they port only, there is always transport to all the local places to go see.

My favourite port of call in recent years was Flaam in Norway back in June this year. We got their first sunny day of the year and the scenary was stunning! Got to see white caves/mines, incredible waterfalls and valleys a viking museum where I learnt that the hat with horns is not real at all just used in literature!
