Thinking of getting a AMD 6000+

The thing is I already have an AM2 motherboard, so waiting for the Intel price cuts won't be as cheap for me since I'd have to get both CPU and MB.

I already have a 4600+, and the 6000+ is 25% faster. I'm just wondering whether it'd be worth doing or not? Does anybody have any idea as to whether these AMD prices are planning to stay/lessen/increase in the near future?

The just had a price cut last week the 6000 is very cheap. I would try and overclock the 4800+ too see if you can any more performance.

Actually just having a further ponder - I currently have a 4600+ AM2 processor with 2GB 5400 Ram. Is it worth upgrading the CPU, or getting 2GB of faster Ram? I'm running 32bit XP Pro (no plans to change either to Vista or running 64bit XP (No drivers at all for my network card :/)).

If you don't overclock I'd go so far to say that the X2 6000+ is better than the E6600. In that it's cheaper and the same (if not more) performance.

Whos comparing the 6000+ with the E6600 now?

Should be with the E6750 and its win win Intel.

Why should it be with the E6750, it's priced like an E6600.

The Conroe boom was overstated a little, Mul and I proved that: http://www.flightsimworld.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=107954

E6750 is going to be priced about £20 less than what it is on OcUK on the 22nd.

6000+ will still be £20 cheaper but if you look at the results from Anandtech they show that the E6750 is better and the way Intel have been going lately I dont see why you would choose an AMD CPU over a Intel CPU.

And if you look that is at the $180 price point which is in the US.

No offence about your C2D review it looks really good but I would rather go with what places like Anandtech say.

Well enough of that.

Back to greenlizard0 original question.

I think you should stick it out. Try and overclock your 4600+

No point in spending £108 on a 6000+ if Barcelona is going to be a lot better than it and no point if Barcelona is going to be worse than C2D/C2Q so my adive would be to see what happens with Barcelona then make a choice. No need to go wasting cash especially if the 4600+ is doing you fnie at the moment.

His review was not a AM2 and its fairer to compare the AM2 X2 6000 to the 6600 not 6700.

Also AMD are still 3+yr old tech than can do well today, need wait on new gen to be fair.

Anantech are liars, they have always been full of it since Nvidia 6800Ultra AGP purevideo ballsup, I no longer even visit that site.

No ones saying AMD arn't good. The problem is intel are just better :p

And it should be the e6750, as this is essentially making the e6600 redundant on the 22nd.

A 1yr old CPU tech that just beats (in real life use) 3+yr old tech could be claimed top be better or not better but its faster, still cant touch AMD for memory bandwidth due to onboard memory controler.

And no is should be the 6600 its compaired to to be fair as possible.

Although it has to be said to counteract the memory bandwidth thing, Intel are generous with the L2 Cache.

I like AMD, I know C2D is newer and faster, its also been shown all that cache is a waste for most uses, I dont like to compair old to new so I am going to wait on new CPU's from both camps, you forget Intel could not touch AMD offically for 3 years (AMD 64's), and even before that since the 1GiG race was won by AMD, their CPU's were faster per clock cycle.

I don't get the logic of not liking the comparison of so called old to new.
As far as I can see from last year the C2D and the X2 64, were the products available to the end user, both the highest spec of that manufacturer. So if you were going to buy a new CPU or a system with a CPU in it you have no choice but to compare.

As for the whole 6750 vs. 6000+ then it would seem the most sensible as they are both the same cost, $180.
