Thinking of joining the dark side

I think these replies have just persuaded me to get a wii. I've been trying to decide which one to get next (can't really afford both) but I dont think I can use the controller.

the deadzone on the analogue sticks and the crappy trigger buttons annoy me more, I have no idea how sony messed up so badly with the pads.

The sticks thing is what annoyed me the most when I played my bros PS3 this summer. I tried the Darkness out and couldn't hit jack without spraying my clip all over the place because of flappy flap sticks, a problem I did not have on the 360 version.

The triggers are also very easy to slide right off because of how they curve in when you press them add some sweaty hands into the equation and you have a nightmare using the thing.
Plus the thing cramps my hands because its too small and the 'handles' don't extend far enough into my hands.

In conclusion the PS3 controller is utter ****.

This is what I've been saying on these forums for ages. What genius thought convex triggers would work should be shot and the deadzone of the joysticks are criminal.

i could never use the PS2 controller, I just find the sticks utterly terrible. Now people on here are saying the triggers are bad as well? and the controller feels very unergonomic to me as well.
Like NokkonWud says they are convex so your fingers just naturally want to slip off them when you push them in, it all just adds to the crab claw position you have to hold the thing in to use it.

I agree, Id love to get a PS3 at some point soon because it seems like a really nice console and it has some interesting games coming out but I just can't stand the controller. Are there any other options controller-wise? is it possible to get a 360 wired controller working on it somehow?

Check out the Logitech Chillstream controller for PC. I can plug my Logitech Rumblepad into the PS3 and it works fine, so I can't see why the Chillstream wouldnt too.

That looks pretty cool, anyone know about the trigger and thumbstick quality? Might get a bit confusing haveing to remember which of Sonys funny symbols go where on the buttons. What does that button to the left of the d-pad do?

I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to crack one open and swap the buttons for the PS ones?

true, damn it I wish Sony would just release a proper pad, they must have done testing and realised its not perfect. I suppose hoping that when they add rumble they'll change the pad is wishful thinking.

I know a lot of people on here prefer the 360 pad, but I genuinly do think the PS style pad is near to perfection - I suppose it's all down to personal choice, as has been said many many times regarding controllers on these forums.

I do think that if a third party company like Logitech made a PS style controller for the 360 and a 360 style for the PS3 then they would make a killing... doubt very much that they would get licences from MS or Sony though!

How can a control pad that's:

Too Light
Too Small
Convex Triggers
No Rumble
Joysticks with horrific deadzone

Be near to perfection?
I understand it's down to personal preference, but other than Rumble and Too light, they are some SERIOUS flaws.

I hate to jump in on the bashing, but the PS3 pad really is really quite poor. The comparatively large dead zone is something i've been complaining about since the very first Dual Shock - with every other first party joypad i've owned (N64, DC, GC, Xbox etc etc) being much better in this regard. Comfort wise it seems to vary from person to person, but they don't sit right for me and the analogue sticks are positioned poorly - my thumbs often touch when playing fps. The d-pad is great as are the face buttons - two areas where the 360 pad quite frankly sucks - and for 2-d games and certain fighters the Six Axis is great. For most modern games that use dual analogue, it isn't. There's no rumble and the triggers don't feel like triggers.

I own both consoles and given the choice would always pick titles like Stanglehold, The Darkness, or any other fps, on the 360 simply because its analogue sticks are that much better.

if i could use the dualshock on the xbox360 i'd be very happy.

but i've been waiting for sony to do something amazing with the PS3 and i dont think it has happened yet and time is running out for me, i've never left it so late to join the next-gen so now i'm going to go with the 360, as much as i dislike the idea of the console, the games and online etc can't be ignored.

I don't think it's too light or too small. Triggers don't cause me any bother. Rumble has never bothered me anyway and I used to turn it off when the option was there on PS2. I have never noticed the deadzones tbh. Maybe it's just down to my style of play, as I usually make lots of taps to the analogue stick in driving games etc rather than making a gentle push.

If there had been a third party PS style controller out for the 360 when I had mine then I definately would have bought one.
