Thinking of joining the dark side

I'd rather get an Xbox 360 and run on SDTV rather than stick being bored with the games on the PS3 with a decent HDTV. Personally.

True, but in my opinion an HDTV should come before both of them.

HD sets have so much potential. Especially when combined with a decent HTPC/Media server.

You're 100% correct by the way. I'd rather play the 360's current library games in 4:3 480i crap-o-vision than play Lair, Heavenly Sword or other derivative rubbish on a 1080P TV.

I can see the PS3's potential but to me it doesn't have enough exclusive games coming up to really make it a hit. Having said that, GT5 could sell a lot of PS3s. Sony have to hope that MGS4 remains exclusive, because if MS get it then its all over. I would definitely consider buying a PS3, but only once its got a couple of brilliant games that aren't available on the 360. Who's going to be stupid enough to buy a PS3 if they already own a 360 and can still play games like Assassin's Creed and GTA4? Not me thats for sure!

I bought a PS3 when I already owned a 360.

I will probably get GTAIV on the PS3 as well (Assuming the games will play the same) There is one major reason for this, unlike my 360 my ps3 hasn't crashed once. My 360 has an annoying habbit of crashing about 10 minutes into a game and then playing perfectly for the rest of the gaming session.

Also assassins creed hold no interest for me at all.

As for the pads, I don't like the weight of the PS3 pad however I Can't say that it annoys me in any way. Half the time I am too busy playing/enjoying a game to notice what the pad feels like.

Thats not right at all - i'd take it back to the shop for a new one.

I'm also tempted to get GTA for the PS3, but MS spent oodles of cash on extra content that is exclusive to the 360. For the amount they send I expect something substantial, which makes the 360 version more attractive at the mo.

If they do GT5 properly and the PS3 comes down to ~£300 i'll be getting one.

but right now i just dont need a blu-ray player so can't justify the price

I don't think it's too light or too small. Triggers don't cause me any bother. Rumble has never bothered me anyway and I used to turn it off when the option was there on PS2. I have never noticed the deadzones tbh. Maybe it's just down to my style of play, as I usually make lots of taps to the analogue stick in driving games etc rather than making a gentle push.

If there had been a third party PS style controller out for the 360 when I had mine then I definately would have bought one.

I too think the PS3 controller is fine. I cant see what all the fuss is about really. Some people dont like it - thats fine by me but they should equally respect the opinions of those that do like it.

You seem to have listed a lot of things in that post that would only stop you buying the console.

I for one, Want it due to Little big planet, Drakes Fortune, GT5, MGS4(which doesnt look technically possible on the 360 to me, capacity wise anyways not without a quality drop) and any future games released.

People seem to really stick it to the PS3 for a lack of games, But seem to forget the amount of games that were out in the first 8 months on the 360. It was pretty lame then to be honest.

I did, for GT, warhawk, FF etc.

so did i but i sold it due to bad ports, PSN network not as good as LIVE, bad voice chat in games - or lack of in some, exclusives few and far between to warrent it just sitting on my sideboard.

Shall get another next year but will see how things progress becasue atm its sure is taking its time

I bought a PS3 on launch day along with a 1080p HD LCD. This system is not just about playing games. If people bought one just for games at launch and then proceeded to carp on about lack of games - then I'm sorry but that's your own fault - you surely must have know about the game shortage :D

I use mine for media streaming, playing blurays/cds/DVDs, surfing the web etc. It's not just for playing games. It will also soon become a freeview PVR - further establishing it as a multimedia powerhouse in your front room.

If it was just about gaming then a 360 is better at the moment - but only in the short term.

Let me give you a challenge: do you have Warhawk? Try to drive a tank while aiming the cannon and firing it. It is one of the most physically inconvenient examples of the PS3 control pad to date. I have no doubt you have heard of the infamous 'Playstation Claw'. The index finger has to be on the R1 button, with the middle finger on the R2 trigger button and the thumb reaching to the opposite extreme end where the R3 analog stick is - that in itself combined with the placement of the trigger glide will cause pain on the back of your hand after prolonged play.

This has been an issue for almost a decade now, and more and more games are encouraging this method of play. It's fine on the Xbox 360 as the layout is more ergonomic and appropriate, but when developers don't realize it's not the same for the PS3 pad, especially on many ports, the gamers lose out. Sony must get their heads down and do a redesign, hopefully without the ridiculous sixaxis (which is a spectacular flop now as Lair and Warhawk proves) and with the rumble back in.

Never had a problem, But then I play Guitar :p

What a crock.

Call of Duty 2, Project Gotham Racing 3, Dead Rising, Test Drive Unlimited, Burnout Revenge, Kameo, Tomb Raider: Legend, Oblivion, Hitman: Blood Money, Saints Row, Top Spin 2, Fight Night Round 3, Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter.

Those are off the top of my head.

I'd say that if those are the games you can come up with, That those are pretty on par with where we are with the PS3's catalogue at the moment. :)

To be fair, most of those mentioned above are on par with RFOM, Motorstorm, Warhawk, Oblivion is out on the PS3 etc

Warhawk has been released a year after the PS3 first came out. RFOM and Motorstorm are nowhere near the calibre of many of the 360's initial library. In fact I would dare say the PS3 had the worst launch lineup in console history, and that includes the Saturn. It's only now with games like Warhawk and Heavenly Sword (which isn't rated that highly to to be fair) that the console's library looks set to brighten up.

I don't know, I thought Call of Duty 2, Oblivion, Ghost Recon were pretty massive games for their time. On par with the PS3's current catalogue? Yes. On par with with the PS3's catalog in the same timeframe? No. The 360 absolutely destroyed the PS3 in terms of launch and the imminent time period thereafter. Let's not get into the argument that the PS3 costed nearly twice as much for half the substance at the time...

In what world?!

why cant you just accept some people may find those games really good? And dont immediately think those people are fanboys please.

Call of Duty 2, Project Gotham Racing 3, Dead Rising, Test Drive Unlimited, Burnout Revenge, Kameo, Tomb Raider: Legend, Oblivion, Hitman: Blood Money, Saints Row, Top Spin 2, Fight Night Round 3, Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter.

Out of that list, Were they all really out in 8 months of the consoles release?

How many of those are on the PS3 too? To be honest, Out of that list, The only exclusive that jumps at me, Is Dead Rising. But thats just me, Never been a big Racing fan to be honest lol

and ghost reacon lol, Cant forget that, Excellent game :D

Where did I say fanboy? Did I? I don't really think I did. You're assuming I did. I never.

I believe they were all out within 9 months (the same time PS3's been out).

I believe 2 of them, FNR3 and Oblivion.

I'm just saying, Motorstorm is okay, nothing more than that, 5 tracks, no local multiplayer and .. that's about it. Resistance is a poor FPS bettered by several on Xbox360. Hitman is a superb game, better than SC:DA, Saints Row is a massive loss for PS3 (it was supposed to get it, but they pulled the plug). Kameo is an excellent platformer, PGR3 and TDU are probably the best 2 fun driving games on any platform at the moment, Oblivion is a AAA game on both formats (though Xbox360 has Shivering Isles) etc..
