Just wondering which expansions I should get when just starting WOW. I think a lot of the expansions just add more to the level cap so arent necessary to begin with?

No expansion you're right.

Try it, if you hit 58 and want more, get burning crusade.
If you hit 70, get Wrath of the Lich king.

Easy :)

Any tips for starting? I've not set my mind on starting yet, but a lot of WOW players are elitest scum who dont want to help the new people lol

Also play Alliance, before you level a horde too high and eventually realise it was not such a good idea as you first thought :D

For the Alliance!

Go on Shadowsong (realm) and level a Hordie.

From experience, the horde tend to be the more mature players. :).

buy the battlechest you can have it for around 15-20quid and it includes the classic wow release and the burning crusade expansion so you would be good for 70 levels.

the burning crusade (TBC) expansion added two new races aswell so without that expansion you would be missing out on the ability to choose from those races.

which may not be a big thing depending on the class you want to play.

unless you have friends already playing saurfang would be a good server for you to start on as its the newest server and a lot of people are still leveling on it at the lower levels where as the already established servers are empty until the later part of the game because everyone alreayd hit 80 and leveled there alt chars.

dont start as alliance because someone on a forum told you to there is nothing wrong with horde ive always been horde and never even leveled an alliance char past lvl3

I have no idea what the difference between horde and alliance are lol

different zones for leveling early on , different capital cities and different races
it used to be that paladin was an alliance only class and shaman was a horde only class but that changed along time ago.

alliance are suposed to be good and horde are suposed to be evil (aparently)

all said and done the only difference between them which may matter is.

horde can not talk to alliance or group with them so if your friends are alliance you dont want to be horde

Basically no difference at all. Its just 2 different factions, one is "deemed" to be good guys and one bad guys, but in essence thats not really the case. Alliance races tend to look a bit prettier but other than that there is essentially no significant difference.

btw make a trial account first http://www.wow-europe.com/en/requirements/trial.html

so you can play for 10days free then when you add your cdkeys to the account you get the free 30 days added on.

40 days instead of 30 without needing to pay a penny :D you could just turn the trial into a full account as soon as its created aswell and you still keep the 10 free trial days aswell as the 30days for buying the game

Thanks for the clarification. Just need to find some friends to start with me xD

Wise words. Cheer mate.

tbh get WotLK and level straight up to 80 otherwise you will be left on servers with less people and less people leveling.

KaHn

Neither side is really better than the other, you will find idiots on either and nice people on either. I was horde all my time except for a level 34 hunter.

Lore wise neither side is really "evil" and alliance are by far the greedier and more bitter faction, although the blood elves balanced this out a bit, Tauren are incredibly peaceful and good natured yet they are Horde, so it comes more down to a race by race basis but I'd say that Humans are the most evil and greedy if you look at the big picture.

I digress hugely!

TLDR It honestly does not matter, although I loved levelling in Mulgore.

I'm gonna be an old fart and moan about how its just not as good at endgame as it used to be

^ this

i got from n00b to lvl 40 before i had to pay

only way to find out what you like is to play, you'll end up with loads of characters with both horde and alliance and in return you'll have lost a social life and 12 months of your life lol
