Thinking of swapping my car, Am I Mad ?

I'd be going with the Beemer.
If I was on the Price is Right (guessing values) and I had to choose which one to take home - the Monday + £500... or the 325 soft top...

uurrghhh, dam this is a tough descision...

I would take the mondy + cash. Sell it and buy an MX5 as stated above (assuming I wanted a slow soft top). A 5K mint condition MX 5 is hardly likely to be 'new' and well specced, though so I hasten to add age and features arnt the reason why I'd ditch the beemer. I just think it would be harder to sell on and wont achieve classic status (in monetry terms).

I'd much rather have the beemer than an MX-5.

Id take the beemer, i dont care about all these extras that everyone goes on about, ABS blah blah, maybe its because im 18 and i dont fully appreciate them.

But that beemer looks gorgeous, certainly not a rude boy cruiser, you've got Ford Escorts for that job :p

But i agree i wouldnt swap you mondeo and cash in for it, thats going too far.

What's scuttle shake like on the old beemer cabs? It was still bad on the older Saab 93. Most companies have only really recently sorted it out.

Maybe, but not THAT beemer.
I said the beemer, I meant that one :)

If I'm getting an MX5 I'm doing so for the looks. I prefer the looks of the beemer :)

Gilly,

Surely you mean you would get the MX5 for handling and not looks?

Oh yes, i would say for me its in the order of

MX5 > Mondeo > E30

Fair call guv. :)

But if you were to get an mx5 it would be as it is a brilliant car though (looks aside) surely? ;)

Interesting set of responses. Wonder how many have said the Bimmer without experience of them?

As an ex 325 E30 owner, I'd run a mile before owning another. Mine was a complete dog, and when I frequented their forums, EVERYONE of the cars there seemed to have some problem or other.
Any remember the first rolling road day? I took my 325 to that, made all of 153hp on the dyno, ie. 10% down on the original specs.

Yes it was a pretty good motor doing most things pretty damn well, certainly handle a lot better than most cars out there.

To compare against an MX5 though, some of you chaps are just kidding me. My MX would make mincemeat out of any normal E30 325 down a windy road. The normal E30 was just too heavy, and the rag top was a good deal heavier, even before taking into account scuttle shake screwing things over. The E30 cabby was never a "sports car", though it did make a nice boulevard cruiser.
So yeah, if you want something to pose in, the E30 is fine, but I'd still be dubious.
Lastly, looks vastly overpriced unless it's in mint condition and comes with a full history.

I wouldnt say its to much money. The current state of the market for good cabs is that they are really fetching strong money, same can be said for the 2dr sports. I will agree though that they are not fuatless...I have had many problems with mine and still have some that I have not got round to fixing. All part of running a 15+ year old car though to be honest.

They still look the part though, which is my main attraction to them, plus when they are working they are real good fun.
