Thinking of swapping my HTC Desire for the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc.....

Na SE were known for it in the past, they made a lot of mistakes it seems they have learnt, the hard way and coming back fighting.

it took HTC ages to upgrade my legand to 2.2 froyo so just as bad really.

it does depend on the operator as well I guess

I know what you mean, I think the sgs2 looks terrible, I'm not getting one and I'm out of contract on my desire too, I'm looking at a future Sony myself, tho not the arc

Well deadline day arrived (contract ended today after 7-8 years with o2!) so I've gone for the Talkmobile deal for the Arc! :D

The guy in o2 retentions admitted that they couldnt touch the deal offered even before the 6 months free by redemption!

At least if I dont get on with it I can sell it and stick with my Desire and I'm only contracted for 12 months at roughly with cost of a sim-only deal for a similar package!

Definition of win-win?? ;)

Does seem a good deal I have to say. Whether you will be quite so pleased in 6 months time when the SGS2 is cheaper I don't know... but you can't wait around forever I suppose and needed to do something NOW :) . Let us know how the phone is. What network does talkmobile use?

Talkmobile use Vodafone's network so hopefully should be a decent connection!

I know I'll probably see something else in the next 6 months or so but I really dont like 2 year deals and I'll bet its going to be a while before something like the S2 is available for this kind of money!

Hopefully in 12 months time there will be a stylish successor to the S2 and I'll be in a good position to go for it!

I'll let you know how I go on!

Thanks for all the opinions guys......

I had the Arc delivered on this deal yesterday - gorgeous looking phone; very stylish.

However all I wanted was the tariff for my mum so the phones been sold for £230.

What a deal :D

I'm actually tempted by this deal after being slightly negative to begin with. Just looked on myo2 and found my contract renewal was 8th July 2011, whoops! (sim only with data bolt on, got £150 cashback when I took it out). Even if I ended up selling the phone it would still work out cheaper than paying £15/month that I am now. The only downside is that there are a few areas round here which are a Vodafone black spot with no signal, o2 can be just as bad at times though I suppose. I was hoping to get a Nexus Prime though and this would tie me to another 12 months. Hmmm... decisions decisions!

Bugger it, I'll order and just sell the phone as "new but opened" if I turn it on and hate it, don't want the deal to end and miss out, it's a great price! If I sold the phone for £230 like kona786 has then it would leave me with a SIM only deal costing £40 for the year!

Should be a reasonable upgrade (especially camera and nicer screen).

Will probably palm the Nexus One off to the girlfriend and sell her OSF.

Edit: Total maths fail. I was thinking it was 6 months line rental HALF PRICE, but in fact it's 6 months FREE. I did wonder how the OP got to £12.50/month! :D . So it's actually £2.50 a month cheaper for a better phone..!
