If you don't mind buying second hand, nothing can beat the 980ti for price to performance, I'm amazed at how well this card keeps up with current gen GPU's, this is really turning out to be one of the gems of GPU's imo, I don't think people are really aware of how well the 980Ti still performs, I think partly due to the guff Nvidia spat out at the 1070/1080 reveal, they really tried to make you believe that the new cards were a massive upgrade, they weren't, and this is plain to see now, people have hung onto "well DX12 will push it into obsolescence", it hasn't, and by the time that 'might' happen everyone will be on next gen GPU's again.

Check out this video, only posted a couple of days ago,

Clearly in terms of performance the 980Ti is still a very current gen card.

Who else up for a 980Ti group hug?

Its a great card i do admit and was happy with mine when i was at 1080p when i first got the card but moving up to a X34 it does lack the power to stay within the 100fps mark for the refresh rate for the monitor for some games (the divison etc) but still like the video shows runs bf1 at 80-90fps on ultra on my x34 which is very nice to play..

Ill defiantly be upgrading it to a 1080ti when they are out :D

I can't wait until the 1080ti comes out, even if I can get just get £200 for my 980ti I'll be very happy, hopefully next gen the 1080ti stands it's ground again

The 980Ti, when overclocked, is almost the same as a 1070 in performance.

This is stock v stock but OC'd Ti v stock 1070 would be on a par

It's really not worth doing stock vs stock, as the guy in the video stated most if not all 980Ti's are overclocked out the box and they all have pretty good overclocking headroom on top of that even, a well overclocked 980Ti will sometimes even pull ahead of an overclocked 1070.

Same boat here but upgrading to the 1080 isn't a huge step and for a good gain in performance means going Titan X or 1080ti if it does get annouced.

Even at 2560x1440 it performed well but 3440x1440 gets it struggling in some games.

384Bit bus and still kicks butt makes this a very viable purchase for anyone gaming at 1440P or above. Well worth a punt I say.

I took the chance on a second hand Palit Super Jetstream 980Ti 6 months ago for £300, cracking card for the money and would happily sit at 1500mhz. The problem arose a week later when it went pop :( Luckily the guy I bought it from was a top bloke and refunded me after I sent the card back to him, but it definitely put the willies up me so to speak, so I went and bought a 1070 which had just been released. Enjoying the cooler running card and performance at 2000mhz+ is more or less the same, but at £120 more at the time it was a little annoying, at least I have warranty now :)

I'd say moving to the 1070 was definitely worth the extra 120 pounds, Examples where the 1070 pulls away from the 980ti are becoming more frequent so you was lucky twice, Once in doing that upgrade and as you said now having a warranty and the other for managing to get a refund under those circumstances, I hope you gave him a good trust point if it was on the MM.

Won't be long and my 980 ti will be 2 years old and still fulfilling my needs. I've paired it with a 2560x1080 ultrawide recently and though the screen is set to 120Hz I limit my games to 75 fps anyway. Fast enough for me and everything runs on V High/Ultra but also reduces the load, heat etc. Running standard clocks now too.

Yes I'll be looking at a 1080 Ti but not at launch this time. Well unless I sell my 980 Ti to my bro when he finally gets round to upgrading the i5 3570k system I built him 4 years previously. That'll be a big step up from his HD7870!

I'd understand 100fps cap but 75, really?

I tested a 144hz ultrawide and a 144hz 1440p monitor before getting the 75hz ultrawide I have now, It doesn't feel any worse from the reduction in hz, It feels a lot better than the 60hz pahel I ran for about 4 years previously though, That may be thanks to freesync but both the 144hz models had it too so I got a like for like test with those and it's no worse for it..

Having got a new 1070 for £295 I think the warranty and extra vram is well worth the extra money.

In fact chuck in the cooler running temps and less energy used to the above and I still think the 1070 is the better buy even if it's £350

Very happy with mine and I can't see me upgrading for quite a while. Hopefully, it will last me ages yet.

I forgot to mention that it appears to be a good overclocker; not so much perhaps when compared to other 980Ti's, but still, when looking back at other cards I've had in years gone by, this one is streets ahead in that department. I can't recall precisely what the most I've seen it overclock to is and I've only attempted that in one game (FO4) so far, but I think something around 1450 - 1475 up from a base of 1025 (1114 boost). Very happy with that. I nearly always run it at stock, though, as it's fast enough for nearly all situations when gaming at present. :)

My Zotac AMP Extreme sits happily at 1552 at hovers around 60-64 degrees with a good old fan profile i set up. Fans never go above 68% but i only ever notice the fans when it hits 55% and isn't loud only audible over other case fans which i have set to lowest setting on my fan controller. Highest ive ever seen my Vram usage go upto at 1440p is 54xx mb so vram still good. So all in all incredible card.

If i was still on my 290x and was going to upgrade though id probably go for the 1070 but knowing how great the 980Ti is it would be very tempting to get one second hand depending on my budget.

Yeah, I've still got mine and it's good.

The claims of massive improvements over 980 series are just that, the 980, not the Ti, which was so much better. Sneaky.

980TI 1500/8000 is faster than any 1070.
