This £350 spec ok?

This saves you a little bit of cash but gets you dual core, the graphics are onboard but that should be fine for your uses, you could get an X2 3800 when they are back in stock and use the money saved for 2gb Ram. :)

Hey guys can I jump in, been away from build for a year or two, (P4 - P4C800E era !!)

Need to put a simple machine together for my mother, the Athlon 700 with 512 Ram, Win ME, is complaining with Broadband and dig camera!!! ....don't think I can keep it going much longer !

I had got nearly the same spec, cheaper/lower ram..... this all ok ???

For the few quid extra might up the CPU to a real one !!...but it's only for surfing, view pictures and playing cards !!! LOL

who buys xp these days?

Semi Pro, good call on integrated graphics...... Well for no good reason I could justify to you guys I guess, I want to stick to the Intel route. Want the lowest risk, most compatible no brainer option. As I'm not on hand to fix issues, due to living in Italy!!......

So, had another go myself:-

Upped it to the Core 2........for 2 quid :)

Is the memory ok with the board ?

XP wasn't broken, why fix it !!! .......... I want it to work without hassle, connect an older Epson scanner and printer. Plus the MS office disc I have is either 2003 or slight older, can't recall. I don't believe it works on Vista ???? So sure not going to upgrade that !..... XP is also less power and memory hungry, correct ?
Vista.... wouldn't touch it personally ..... not at least first service pack, is that out yet ???

Thanks for your help

All looks fine to me now, I don't know a huge amount about the motherboard but Intel are generally pretty solid so I wouldn't worry too much.

2gb Ram would still be better and PC5300 might be a sound option if any overclocking will take place at all but if you are on a tight budget I can understand why not. :)
