This Business and Moment...

Oh great. I need to move our new work website(s) to a new host because I'm not happy with Vidahost's performance on this new version of the shopping cart software. Spent weeks looking for a specialist host with UK support for this software and a few days talking about the needs of the server. Finally got the login details... and it's not suitable at all. Considering they ONLY host this system how can they give me hosting space that is not compatible? Specialists my ........
Business critical? Build it on Azure / AWS!

I take it back, I thought once the account was set up that was it and I was going to be left to it. Decided to sleep on it before complaining (reading up on Azure as a backup), logged in this morning to find they'd increased all the resources and even installed some demo bits to get it up to speed quicker.

Azure/AWS is really tempting... but we're nowhere near big enough to need that much scalability just yet and it's easier right now to pay £20-30/mo for a web host that manages the server than trying to rush out something cloud based with no idea what the cost would be after our last Sharepoint disaster.

The thing is I already have one space for all my email accounts, it's called 'my browser'.

I don't understand the fascination of having everything in one place, mushed together, offering a poorer experience.

That's it though, it doesn't have to be a poorer experience! I don't want to have 7 tabs open with my emails on! It's all just clunky. Making it a better user experience is the key.

And yea Phate, it's true a lot of promise around it but never specialises and delivers on it. We'll knock it up and see if I can sway you guys :)

You got it! I love listening to various sales podcasts and reading sales leaders blogs and it's amazing how many people still just don't get it. It's not even cold calling. It's doing your research, being relevant and having a real life conversation.

Yep, it was AppD. I'm lucky enough to be part of that now, too (I work in sales at Cisco).

**** me. I know a guy who works there, hence me thinking it was them. That's mega crazy.

  Who's the guy you know?

Well, I used to work for their competitor (Compuware/Dynatrace) so lots of my ex-colleagues are over there now. Their VP of Sales Enablement (Tom) was the first guy I knew to join.

Slow start for us this calendar year. Normally is anyway, but having met with the accountant last week and him building/projecting a 16/17 cash book based upon our strong performance in the latter half of last year, I got very excited about what the company will look like by the end of summer. Unfortunately, half of our pipeline has just fallen through the floor without us being able to have any impact on it whatsoever. Very frustrating.

Going to try to be more level-headed in 2017. Was far too guilty of being equally bearish/bullish when things swayed last year, so I'm going to settle on the fact the firm is in a very safe place at present and it'll either get a little better or worse over the next 12 months, but nothing dramatic will happen (...hopefully!).

One of those things where the best ones are in the game are always the ones who build lasting relationships over the long term, but that doesn't always help when the bills need paying! Hopefully you have a good year though!

tbh, I don't know that many people with more than 3 or 4 emails, and of the ones I do know, they only have one true and used email address and the rest are spam which don't need checking.

Best of luck with it though. :)

It's a valid point to raise though, and something I should spend more time digging in to. I'll let them technically mock something up first.

I think, for me, the value prop of having one place for all your photos is a more common problem and would be a nice sell.

Think I had a verbal warning this morning for not being up to date on helpdesk tickets, there was only one in there from Friday at 11:30 that had been assigned to someone else 10 mins earlier and I left work at 12.

Baring in mind the weekend before I did 21 hours work from home between Friday 6 pm and Sunday at 5 pm, as well as a further 8 hours through the week setting up new starters from home it's safe to say that on top of my cold, my extreme joint pain due to that cold and not being able to take time off this week due to my daughter having chicken pox without fear of my job being advertised again my moral has fallen through the floor and anger shot through the roof!

Head down for the day, more job hunting tonight.

We have a new feature. I talked about it. I look like a ****.

I seriously hate doing that stuff but I know it's very useful for content and everything online and I made a commitment this year to content!

It's a very good point.

I was asked by HR to complete an Anti-Money Laundering test on our Moodle based knowledgebase, that I had already completed but wasn't showing for them.

Took it again and it claimed it had taken me 31 days to do, when in reality it was less than 5 minutes, but it had picked up when I had first started and never took into account that time I'd not been working on it.

I think if someone/place is being stupid about trivial things, and completely disregarding the bigger picture, leaving is the only thing that makes. as that kinda of small mindedness is an old grained habit which never changes.

Support brings out the worst in some people. Its like quicksand trying to escape from it. I got dragged into huge support work load, which I was buried under until recently. The trick now is not get dragged back into it.

That's what the theme does...

I wouldn't worry about that, I knocked it up on monday for a bit of fun to distract me from the massive to do lists I had in front of me.

I've seen that theme a few times. Perhaps the original designer thinks it looks like a designer layout. It jut looks broken to me though. I'd pick a different theme if it were me.

It amazing how much other non essential work we can get done when we want to avoid something else.

Thing is, I don't mind the workload, just doesn't bother me, the issue is as you say, the pettiness. I've been looking for somewhere else for a few months now but the issue is that we don't use the typical systems you'd expect, Active Directory, Group Policy, Exchange servers which means no experience so moving to another role is difficult, which is why I am trying to find time to build a test lab at home with spare systems I have. May book some time off just to do that and push the MS training.

This is what im doing at the moment, so I feel ya.
My authority in my work place has complete eroded, its a simple case of new management coming in, changing the status quo of everything via a lot of underhand deals, massive amounts of drama, and people seemingly knowing what project i'm going on to in September without a single person actually discussing it with me first! serious wtf moment..

Our office is dead, no one talks to each other, and just months ago it was buzzing.

Anyway, headphones in, crack on and see what comes up. Problem is every job I looked at all of a sudden needs post grad quals - when did that become a norm?!?

So I'm back from the face-to-face!

Initial impressions of the office are wow! Never seen anything like it. Was all very exciting.

The meeting lasted around 45mins. Lots of "business" type questions such as "why shouldn't we hire you?" "what would a previous manager say about you in 5 words" etc

It was a face-to-face with a CSM and another one who is based in Prague, he Skyped in.

Very thought provoking meeting/interview, but good! I enjoyed it and had fun! I brushed my teeth and everything this morning and gave it my best smile :D

I've done everything I can. They told me I should find out this week and they're looking to move quickly on this. They also insisted that if I had any questions to email them directly. I'm taking this as a good sign. I think if I had done something wrong and left a bad impression I would have been told "we'll be in touch" and then left it at that.

Trying not to get my hopes up, but I am failing miserable :D

Now the wait begins :)
