This Business and Moment...

The cost of Linkedin premium is insane, £39.99 a month! Does anyone here use it ?

I had it a long time back but cancelled it, it was nice to see the names of people snooping on me, but that was about it..
Historically I used it when looking for work, but it wasn't so expensive back then.
This time round it's been many months and still no job so I've cancelled it to save money.
Not convinced it was really helping me anyway tbh, if anything I suspect it caused more calls from timewaster recruiters.

Think I'm going to request gardening leave. Got two months of notice left and as of the end of the week I'm no longer on a project, so I'll just be sat twiddling my thumbs.

Had pretty much three months of this - from a work perspective it would have been hell, but I was still fully remote so I got through a good chunk of my gaming backlog.

Yeah I don’t need it, I was just blown away by the cost of it!
Got to pay for AI somehow.

I join when it’s on offer for free, and always make sure to cancel it.

I personally find no use for LinkedIn, but then I never like putting my personal details on a public site so I don’t particularly share much.

Bombed an interview. I'm good with a practical technical test, but when it's talking about programming theory I totally fail to string words together coherently, rip.
Had that last week during my Cloud Architect interview. Threw some powershell and terraform scripts at me.

I'm the absolute opposite, I can smash the theory - but if someone is watching me in an interview scenario I forgot how to even do hello world.

So the guy I've been for over the last couple of years is selling the project I've been working on to another company. Had a meeting with the guy he's selling to, and I'm carrying on for the time being plus I gave myself a payrise in the process. Happy with that :)

Can't really say much due to the whole don't talk to the media thing but got into work today to find mass redundancies on the cards, looks like I've escaped the cut for now at least but that has set the tone for the next few months...

EDIT: Filtering the news for redundancies out of curiosity it is just a stream of companies struggling at the moment - increase in rates and other costs coupled with the recent Labour government stuff especially the NI taxes has really taken the wind out of a lot of companies net profits and/or net profit projections and I can only see it getting worse.

I applied for an senior role a few weeks back, the company says on their careers page. All CV's are read by an human and not filtered by AI. My friend works for this company as an manager, he also confirmed this to be true.

During the application process, you need to enter your salary exceptions. You cannot submit your application until this field is completed.

I was invited for an interview, which I had on Friday. It was with their HR and the person who would be my boss if I got the role. Within the first 5 minutes the HR person asked me about my salary exceptions. Which I got annoyed about because if they read my application, like they said they do then why is she asking about my salary exceptions!?!!?

Anyway, I gave them my salary exceptions. The same I had put on my application form, they said it was above their budget and if I am willing to negotiate.......the negotiation salary the gave me was 10K a year less than my current salary

I took a pay cut to come to my current job because my old boss asked me to join him. Then they decided bin me off after a year. Learnt my lesson! I took a paycut once, I am not doing it again!

The salary expectation is a funny one. Simply put you put what you want and leave them to it. Just because they want your skills cheaper than elsewhere - I would add 10% for the insult. It shows that the company has a company culture that supports what the HR is attempting todo on a regular basis.

I have no problem if they say we have a budget of X and you're X+10%. In the end you're being paid less than a contractor and you can be terminated on the spot over the next 24 months.

Just politely contact the hiring manager and HR and politely confirm that you will not accept what they have offered. Leave it there and walk away. Look for other roles, virtually nobody accepts the first offer.

I see what happens, they are interview more people.

My friend asked how it went and I told him about the salary situation. Even he started giving me BS about why. I was like, you sound exactly like them now.

Who tells their friend why they should accept a lower salary for the company they work for!?!?!

My old boss used to struggle to fill roles and complain there are aren't the people out there. Im now doing that job and its simply not true, there are loads of good people out there, they just wanted more than he was prepared to pay. Good people cost you money, but its all about the value they bring. I would say don't ever undersell yourself, if you know your worth stick to your guns. Companies will always try it on (I do) even if they think you are the right person, but if they see your value they will do what they can to bring you onboard, then its up to you.

Companies will pay you as little as they can get away with, expecting you to give your 100% performance while they make max profits.

I've never negotiated salary in any of my jobs, always took the first offer. I'm not doing it again while everyone else is rising above me.
