This Business and Moment...

I found out today that I've got the promotion I applied for at work, the rise of 11.2% seems a little bitter sweet, as I imagine they've used our annual pay rise which is also due now to reduce the promotion pay rise figure somewhat. But I do get an increase in bonus (17% to 20%) and another £100 a month for my car allowance and more RSUs. Take home wise it's going to make very little difference as I'm going to put any extra into my pension.

What it does do is open up more doors internally, as it's very rare to promote into a new role via an internal move and all of the roles I had considered were a grade above what I was. Also, if I do move externally it gives me more negotiating power due to the job title.
Awesome man! Congratulations!

Been through the interview process and have been offered a job. On the face of it, the 18% payrise would swing it, but after travel costs and a smaller pension contribution are taken into account the package is not hugely different to what I'm already on.
Go back and tell them this? Negotiation is all on you. If they say no and it's not worth it, dont!

Mad stress - I couldn't find my degree cert and my parents previously stated they gave it to me. The last time this was requested for a job application was 25 years ago on my first graduate role. Turns out my parents had a bit of a reorg over the weekend and found it. Problem solved. As I couldn't find it I'd ordered a re-issue from the university that takes up to 20 days but I only have about two weeks for the application vetting hence the stress!
This is the great thing about not having a degree :D

Director at work in her late 50s on my team is a total drain. She's been in the org for decades and spends all her time either coffeeing with people under the guise of work and typing up documents for literally weeks, that should be automated, but she lacks the ability to coordinate and understand how to manage these things. She's in charge of budgets and resource as well. It's mental. I've asked her to fill in 1 slide of a PPT for a workshop I'm leading. I've asked 4 times. I sent reminders, it's been in our team meeting, I know she hasn't put a single thing in this because I'm tracking all the changes. I reckon she gets paid $200k+ a year and she's more useless than a penis at a lesbian orgy.
I honestly would normally just move on, but all of this has a huge impact on the overall running of things and the processes we need. I've been trying to get her to understand we need to model our budgets differently next year for product teams, so they have the ability to estimate growth and spend in their products over the year and we can estimate and budget accordingly. We have people asking us for like $8k for licenses at the moment, which is such a BS time soak for all involved.
Her response? "We've always done it this way"

This is why it's so ****** you total boomer ****!

It's not even my ******* job, but part of my job is to make sure product teams can be effective and this ******* woman is messing with everything and my boss, for some reason, just can't see how messed up **** is with her!

I needed that rant.

Carry on.

I had a proper OK Boomer moment at work the other day. Was in a meeting and all the old dudes were complaining that, when the people in our building (I say ours but I still haven't been back in :D ) are getting less space and having screens removed. So no more dual monitor setups etc. People kicked off and were like, seriously? WTF? The new monitors are all **** as well. People, I think rightly frustrated.

The people in this meeting were like, they should be lucky they're not losing their jobs in the layoffs. They're lucky to have jobs. Lucky to have an office as nice as ours... I was like, huh? So, we don't need to consider the level of expectation for workers? Just tell them, at least they have aircon, unlike some offices people work in? **** me.
What are people's thoughts on moving to the same job role in a different industry which offers greater opportunities for progression, but initially on a lower overall compensation (salary plus benefits, pension, etc)?
If there is more scope, I would, but only if that scope for progression was documented. I've been stung before with false promises.

I often find this, too. Or, they just don't estimate at all. I would wonder what sort of pipeline it is and who manages those stories/ requests through it not to update it though and understand the complexity as those things should really come out more when you're doing prioritization work as well @NickK

I got pinged on LinkedIn again about this CPO role for a "web3" company - it's the 4th message I have had about it. I didn't reply to 2 of them, but the first one I spoke to a recruiter while I was on holiday, he said he liked me and would put me forward. I heard nothing, like most great recruiters. This last one, I just replied asking if she was working with the client directly. I know who it is and instead of getting another 10 messages about it, I thought I'd email the CEO. I'm not actively looking, I have loads of stuff on and I do well where I am, so I'm not bothered, but regardless it was more out of annoyance from recruiters. The CEO replied asking for some details. I said happy to chat casually if they're still looking and I'm not actively in pursuit of a new role, but saves me coming up and being shown to him / their company another 10 times. (I think because I have blockchain experience and product leader in my linkedin, it just pings up)
I hate recruiters.

Just wait until you have quantum cryptography or security in your profile! You’ll get his for crypto currency, security (when you're in cryptography).. plus the usual :) may favourite one was a call from a colleague in the same company I’d just accepted a contract from.
hahahaha recruiters are such buzzword whores. I wish they just looked at the competitors of the company they were working for and approached the people in similar roles - proper headhunting style if they want to find the right person. ****, it's what I used to do and it's far more effective.

I've been buzzing the past week as I was offered a position I've been on the hunt for for a while. I've worked at a small office in the middle of the countryside for 7 years, during which time I've developed a lot and done my chartered accountancy.

This new role is in a large global business where I'll be based out of London 2 days a week. >40% pay rise, career prospects etc and great development for me. Just got to get the pre-employment checks sorted and then roll on 7 weeks notice. Handing in my notice tomorrow as I finally got the formal offer through today. Very excited to be begin my new role and to be on to bigger and better things (hopefully!).
That's a huge step up man! Well done!

Final day after 6 and a half years this coming Thursday... just back from 2 weeks annual leave so doesn't feel like I have had much of a notice period at all! Started looking after annual review process didn't deliver what I was looking for and found the market to still be very hot for Tech Sales.. multiple offers / interviews without really pushing the issue. Getting a great step up in responsibility and package so v happy!
Well played man! Great way to do it and sales I think are always pretty hot, especially when markets are down!

I was contacted on Linkedin about a role and I normally pie them off or don't reply, but this one seemed pretty interesting. It's Director of Product Operations for a company called Scandit. They have no product operations at current but have just taken series D funding of something like 240m and want to try and standardize some of their approach to product. It's Zurich based, but hybrid. Maybe more Zurich at first to build up the presence and then could be more home based. Would be working for the VP of product, who is one of the original founders.
Spoke to the internal talent acquisition people, who is arranging for me to speak to the VP. If that goes well it'll be 24hrs to work on a case study and present to them. Then it would be 2 weeks to work on a case and then again present it to them. Half of me is like meh, seems like a lot of work, but would be nice to have a day job where I felt I could actually provide value and get stuff done.
