This Forum. Why so basic?

I mean seriously, no tapatalk functionality.... still!!??

The last thing I want is a Tapatalk thing added this forum. It works perfectly well on my smartphone with the standard display. If there were a Tapatalk addin then I'd get really fed up with it popping up all the time telling me that there's an app available which I don't want to use because it offers me nothing. Modern smartphones are able to display full web content so well that using an app for a forum is a waste of time.

Agreed, opinion is fine, but this forum obviously looks just fine for a vast amount of opinions otherwise it wouldn't be so popular.

Why is it needed? I finally got a phone with a decent sized screen and it works just fine in a browser.

I mean don't get me wrong, this forum is awesome and I really like the minimal, clean aspect of it, but it does look very basic and lacks some pretty standard functionality that most people would expect in 2012.

I get the impression that the people who run this forum still do everything in DOS too.

What functionality is it missing then?

PMs? Trust system works just fine and i actually prefer it going to my email rather than popup forum messages or tiny blinking icons that you never see.

Status updates? What's the point. We have a thread for people (including me) to post inane drivel in. Don't need a whole section of the screen space taken up by it.

Staff online? Can see that in the users online list quite clearly.

who is missing these features? most members, or just a handful? I would suggest as these things are not put forward a lot, and by most peoples reactions, it is just a handful. so why ruin the forum for the masses to please the minority?

I don't love this place (but I'm fairly new) but I have to say the simple, basic, straight forward approach is sometimes nice, I love simple, clean things actually. But I also love customization, here you are limited to just your sig it seems which I can deal with and even the default blue colour scheme works well, things are easy to see/read and so on. :)

I prefer dark colour schemes on forums but that's just me

I've always disliked the fact that avatar choice is limited to either a couple of rubbish ones or no avatar, but apart form that I like the forum :) a PM system could be useful too I guess as that's made itself apparent by its absence on a number of occasions.

If it ain't broke, why meddle.
Basic, yes, but it's functional, I personally like the forum the way it is.

Not one for garish, cluttered forums, prefer it simple, but I would like the option to change background colour now & again, plus more avatars..

The forums are rarely down, I can read what other people have written, write here, press post reply and that's about all you need on a forum. We already have custom signatures, we don't need custom avatars too. PM isn't really needed, we have trust if you really need to contact another member.

I've had a couple of people come up to me at work and say I saw you browsing OcUK when I walked past your desk the other day, I know those blue forums anywhere, they were foreigners too so it's internationally recognised. OcUK would be mad to change the colour scheme from one that is so well known. :)

Yes, and if you bother to read my post about Tapatalk which I've now repeated twice then perhaps you'll understand why I don't like it.
I wasn't actually talking to you and yes I did read your post:rolleyes:
Once I have a forum on Tapatalk I don't then visit it in the mobile browser so your point was a total non-issue for me.
