Oh sweet Jesus. I share my now t.v. subscription with my mum. On the home page it says continue watching so I get to see what she's watched lately and vice versa.

I watched fifty shades freed the other night. Just went on and home page implies it's only had first ten mins watched. Think 'that's weird I watched the whole lot'.....yup....that's right... my mum was going to watch it :eek: thank God she decided not to. She doesn't even like it when people swear a few times or have a full on snog!!

Well Mum really upset me by not thinking about what she says.

I'm a fairly portly fellow but the weight around my face was well hidden by the fact I had a beard, I shaved it all off in an attempt to encourage myself to lose weight (which so far is working) - I hate how I look now whereas before I was just "meh" about it.

Mum got upset about the fact that I now look fat, and made me feel like she's ashamed of me, looked on the verge of tears, and said stupid **** like "I didn't realise you were so fat" and "Your whole face is all bloated" and I got annoyed and said "thanks, maybe offer words of encouragement about me losing weight instead of making me feel like ****" and she didn't apologise, and carried on about it. Made me feel like dirt and I went from looking forward to losing some weight, to feeling even more depressed and hating myself even more. It felt like I was being talked to by the school bully not by my own mother.

I retaliated by pointing out some of her flaws to see how she liked it (I was angry, and have never done that before in my life) and she started crying, and I then went out. I phoned her when I was out to apologise and say I was just hurt and angry that she would say things like that with no consideration for how I feel, but she didn't let me say anything other than "I'm sorry" before hanging up. She knows I'm self concious and have mental health issues etc) - And then I come home to a note from her saying I should "never speak to her again".

I was shocked to be honest, it just seemed out of character and uncaring and childish. Shouldn't dish it out if you can't take it.

Yes I feel bad because she's my Mum, we'll probably make up tomorrow, but I hope she apologises too, because she really hurt me.
 
That sucks. Especially if you’re conscious about it. I shaved my beard for holiday and it really shows previously hidden chin fat and it’s easy to forget about it when it’s less noticeable.

My mother in law always slips up and calls me fat in a roundabout way. Once she said I looked like Elvis and when my wife disagrees she said. “Well not when he was young but when he was old and fat”

Another time we were on a beach in winter and were jumping across a stream on the beach and she told me I’d never make it carrying all my extra weight.

We laugh about it though.
 
We have talked briefly this morning but nothing past "shouldn't you be leaving for work?" - "yes I'm going in a minute" - "OK"

Hopefully we will make amends when I get home!
 
I had a similar argument with my mum about a decade ago. It took several months but I didn't back down. Eventually she realised that she was in the wrong and now everything is fine, it's not pleasant but you shouldn't have that attitude towards you and accept it just because she is your mother. Some parents struggle to transition you from child to adult and don't treat you differently (and appropriately) as you get older. This means that the way they act toward and around you also doesn't change, which to me feels like this here. I don't know how old you are but she needs to understand that she can't treat you like that just because you're her child - you deserve to be treated with respect and she should apologise. Unless theres is more to it you are not in the wrong

Just did 40 mins of kickboxing and feel goooooood:cool::cool:. Sweating like crazy, mind :D another sesh on Monday hopefully so will be yoga/something else rest of the week

@Acme I've had similar from my mum in the past :( things like prodding my stomach and saying "look at this!! " etc (of course neither of us realising at the time it was also partly bloating from health issues)

She only stopped when she finally saw how upset I was that not only were the rest of the family making comments but she was as well. I was anaemic as a teen so I had criticism for being skinny and now I was being called fat (the most I ever was, was a size 12)

There wasn't any apology it was just one of those things where I think she realised she was wrong and stopped it.
Maybe you just need to explain how it made you feel and that you apologise for how you spoke but you feel she should apologise back.
Obviously you are the only one who knows what relationship you have with her.

There are plenty of worse things that my mum has done but she's not easy to talk to so it just kind of gets brushed under the carpet :/

Mums are gunna mum. Reach out and make the first apology. Do something stupid and token like buy her flowers. Mums love that.
