Feels like this company are going well away from normal convention. It's cheaper paying monthly than paying all upfront :/

I only need contents insurance currently but my mortgage broker sorted it for me so i get cover for £70k for £11 a month. At the time the best I could get was £50k for £26 a month.

Im always trying to hunt around on the cashback sites etc and reminding my mum not to just pay renewal prices.
...

Seriously losing my damn mind with this piriformis syndrome/right sided lumbar radiculopathy/whatever you wanna call it :(
I just want to walk and sit without pain

Depends....

Does the clock starts at Shinjuku or are you in Narita or Haneda Airport at 7pm?

Because it will take about 35-45mins from Haneda into the city and about 2hrs from Narita.

Do you need to be back at the airport (and which one) at 9am or are you leaving say Shinjuku at 9am?

And how much sleep do you need?

Are you alone?

Note that the trains stops from midnight, the last train to and from the airport is probably around 10:30 from Narita. Late night (like past midnight buses to and from the airport are currently suspended). Although you can get a taxi to Haneda for about £30-40. Narita will set you back a couple of hundred.

Things to do in the city, most retail shops starts closing at 8pm/9pm. Most restaurants closed by 10pm. Some opens 24hrs, like Matsuya and Sukiya. Konbini like 7-11 are mostly 24hrs.

Late night entertainment you can do Karaoke, but room are booked by the hour. The bars around Omoide Yokochō would start closing from around Midnight. There are Manga Cafes you can go to that stay overnight.

Shibuya Sky closes at 10:30.

Basically, if you can get to Tokyo shops by 7pm, I would go get a good meal, perhaps go to Shibuya at 9pm to check out the city view. Then on if you want to go drinking then you can go to a bar. If you want to stay up all night then it's Karaoke.

A budget night sleep i would look at APA hotel, avoid Capsule hotels, they are not that fun really. Plus the prices has gone up since all the tourists started using them. They are loud, the temperature is hard to control, or there are none. APA is a hotel chain targetted for businessmen. Tiny room but at least your own bathroom.
Thank you so much for this post sir. I will arrive 1945 and then will need to depart 13:15 the next day. So essentially I have 1945 -> hotel check-in -> 2am max? and then sleep ready for departure at 1315.

Maybe worth a walk to experience a Omoide Yokocho (?) and a Manga Cafe!

Heatwave on the way its already sticky and water company reports not one but two burst water mains might have to collect bottled water tomorrow and I can't even have a shower! Fantastic timing! Theres a shower at work and I have a key but its a 20+ mile round trip

I assume you land in Haneda?

Then you are probably won’t get out of the airport for about 45mins minimum. Things to note, you should have data, get a 7 day/1 Gig one for peanuts with Airalo e-sim.

If you have an iPhone then you can add Suica card into your Travel Wallet Card and top it up with say….1000 yen (it cost about 650 yen going from Haneda into inside what is equivalent to the London’s Circle Line), call the Yamanote Line.

Use it to tap through the gates at the station, otherwise you can get a physical one for 500 yen (refundable if you return it), and then top it up with another 1000 yen, or may be 2000 yen.

If you manage to leave Haneda by 9pm then I would be tempted just go straight for food…..you could go to Omoide Yokocho for this, get some chicken skewers together with seeing that famous alleyway, 2 birds 1 stone.

You could go to a Manga Cafe, but it might not be what you imagine, it’s essentially like a library of manga you can read, all in Japanese, and you have your own room, size of a bathroom, with a TV in. Some people sleep in those as it’s cheaper than renting a hotel for the night.

Personally, i would only go if you can read Japanese or REALLY short of cash and need somewhere to sleep without sleeping rough.

If you want a capsule hotel then 9hrs is a popular one but i personally would just book into a business hotel. Check Bookings.com for deals. Get a hotel close to the station, and ideally, on a stop on the Yamanote Line.

In the morning, if your flight is 13:15 then you need to be there 2hrs before….that makes it say 11am, and budget an hour to get from where you are in tokyo to Haneda (i would get the monorail). Then you need to depart at 10am latest.

Shops in Tokyo don’t really open until like 10am at the EARLIEST, most open at 11am. Before that you can really only find Konbinis, bakery and coffee shops mostly. So in the morning I tend to see places like temples or Shrines. If you are staying on the Shinjuku side (west side of the Yamanote Line) then you can go check out Meiji Shrine. If you are on the East side (near Akihabara or Tokyo station side) then go up to Sensoji Temple. If you are up at like 5am then check out Tsukiji Outer Market for their food.

Japanese are not big on breakfast, people get it typically from Konbinis, if you need warm breakfast then it’s places like Sukiya where you are served grilled Salmon, rice and Miso soup, or McD’s.

@dLockers if you need to get cash out…the banks closes at like 6pm or something and the cash points are usually inside….so to get money out, go to a 7-11 or Family Mart, they all have cash points inside them. It is also you will find a toilet should you need it.

But since the pandemic, a lot more places now take contactless, even some vending machines, although smaller independent shops are still cash only.
