This is driving me mad

Didn't we have this with the waiter thing only last week?

The shenanigans are in the wording at the end. You don't add the pound you have left to the debt to the others, you minis it to get the value of the goods you bought.

The £1 is part of the £98 you have borrowed (£97 + £1), it is not additional too it.

Eh? No you owe them £49 each but the mistake comes when you then add on what you have (the quid) to what you owe, they are two different things. You can't add them together and this is what makes this 'problem' work.

See my post #14

Once you have returned £1 back each to them, you dont still owe them £49 each but £97/2 + £1 + £0.50 (of the £1 you have kept) = £50

In essence yes do still owe them £49 each, but that £1 you have is part of that. Lol probably just the way each person works things out in thier own ways.

Edit lol you are right - £97/2 + £0.50 = £49

I blame aliens for taking the pound.

The more important question is if you have a helicoptor on a trampoline will it still take off?

If an airplane is on a treadmill will it take off?

Is 0.9999r equal to one?

If I have a huge long poking stick, can I use it to send messages faster than the speed of light?

Who keeps stealing all my left socks?

Anyone getting confused by this needs to seriously evaluate their life choices. The OP is also included in the former collective as you can tell he butterfaced when he was told it.
