This is what I got up to yesterday (pics included)

They are great things to be on. Very cool pics too. No Harriers though. :( *Not a Tornado F3/ADF fan - it's a mud mover by trade - buy a proper fighter!*

Did one a few years ago with the ATC - except ours started in the early evening and continues on until it was dark. :D

Weird thing - the cruising speed of the VC10 is slightly above that of the Tornado..so the Tornado has to push one of it's engines into reheat to keep up once attached. :D

Not too surprising really though - Concorde was faster than our Tornado F3's and ADF's :(

Strange how they allowed you to take photos of all those things!! This is not a wind up is it?
 Not at all. They allowed us to take photos in the same way you can take photos at airshows or air museums. I couldn't think of anything in the photos which could be classified as "secret", and I would post a photo of me in the cockpit but I'm not a very photographic person :).

One last photo is of the presentation in the Officer's Mess (I also have a smaller print of this photo). It is of Air Vice-Marshal McNicoll presenting a photo of us all before we boarded the Tri-Star, to The Master of the Worshipful Company of Carmen. You can just about see me standing on the ground, 2nd from the right, with the Air Vice-Marshal McNicoll on my right and my Uncle in his lovely maroon jacket on my left. Directly behind the top right hand corner is the co-pilot (you can see the top of his head) and standing next to him is a training instructor who was also on the flight. Because Air Vice-Marshal McNicoll is not fully qualified on the Tri-Star (he used to fly Tornado's), he needed 2 instructors to be present in case of an emergency.

"Zhukovsky Airbase is the only place in the whole World where you can fly MiG-25 for hire. There is no other jet available for anybody to fly like MiG-25 that can climb to 80,000 feet in two minutes and stay there. It has reached highest absolute altitude of 123,524 feet (37.65 km) claiming the World record that still stands".

Unofficially MiG-25 has been known to outrun the air-to-air missiles

I think i would like to hire that plane :)

Similarly, the evasive action when a Lockheed SR71 detected a missile was just to accelerate :)

The story goes that the MiG-25 was originally designed by the Russians to try and intercept the SR71. It never happened.

molinari - those are some seriously nice pics. Looks like you had an excellent time :)
