This is what makes red Smarties red!

If we saw how all our food was prepared we probably wouldnt eat it. A sad truth about modern day society.

Most people just don't care and really have no interest in seeing an animal get killed which is understandable, it's not they they don't know thats what happens just don't want to have to see it.

Plus most of the stuff that goes into ready meals etc, looks horrible till it's finished and colored (although ironically it's often made with the more flavorsome cuts of meat as their cheaper.)

Although raw meat tastes exceptionally nice, obviously not chicken but bacon and good tender beef are lovely raw :D

^ I think you should be deducted 708 posts.

:eek::(:D:D

why does it bother you? I don't understand why people care unless they are vegetarian?

Exactly. I think it is a bit URGH using bugs, but wating smarties has never made me ill or killed me, and they taste soo good. But glad they removed the colouring from the blu ones as it sent my younger brother loopy years ago when he downed multiple packs :D

As long as they're blended up nice and fine it doesn't bother me at all. Theres another type of insect used in Vimto iirc.

EDIT: Just checked and it seems Vimto is Vegetarian.

As said above, bugs (cant spell the name of the colour) are used in thousands of food products, its nothing new, anyway, its natural so I dont see what the fuss is.

If you want somthing to moan about, look up "brilliant blue" its a carcinogen thats banned in many countries, but is still used in the UK as an addetive in bluberry muffins and such.

One of my old jobs involved dealing with it, and I had to wear full protective clothing and head gear to handle it.

It would seem that E120 is no longer used for red smarties. Instead they use E122.

They do, though, seem to use it for violet smarties. Funny, that.

Blue smarties are back as they've found dye from bacteria. Nice :D
