I could often tell when one of my mates had being doing the five knuckle shuffle when I'd go round his house and saw a folded bit of paper over the webcam on his computer

I wouldn't over use that. Whilst it's quite conspicuous and probably wouldn't be noticed once or twice he'll suspect something if it keeps going to a black screen when he's using it.

Also when I tested Cerberus there was one pic command I did where for a split second my image came up after the black screen went.

You have his picture now anyway.
