This new found 360 reliability...

I agree with you there Demon about the 360...

Some people have been through numerous consoles...and why? Because it's brilliant!

I'm looking forward to getting mine back so I can trade it in for a 175w Pro.

What's this business about a 'reliable' xbox, I bought mine 2 weeks ago anyway I can find out what one it is?

I'm also under the impression if it's HDMI it's a goodie. I could be wrong though, Thats the only reason I'm thinking mines a good one. It's HDMI :p

No there are some HDMI models with old cores. There are 2 ways to check for a Falcon core. Check the Wattage on the side of the Xbox 360 box, it'll say 203w or 175w. The 175w are the new Falcon Cores. However some small amount of late manufactured 203w's have the Falcon core too, this can be checked by looking through the grill to see the heat sink.

With regards to failure rates, I wish people would stop going "Oh well if it breaks I've got a 3 year free warranty!". You don't! There are numerous hardware failures which can affect your xbox, ONLY the overheating problem (3 RRoD) is covered. There are other hardware failures which can trash your box which aren't covered. Nokkon's GPU exploded - Not Covered. My Scaler Chip died - Not Covered.

The one thing I will say, Sonys response to failed PS3s is far far FAR superior to Microsofts. Phone up with a problem with your PS3, collection is organised and a new box is dropped off at the same time.

As for failure rate, I've got a new Xbox now with the Falcon core. It definitely runs cooler, unfortunately the drive in this one is ****** noisy but if there's no disc in the drive it runs a bit quieter too.

Just to put some balance to that, I suspect though that if SONY had the logistics of failures on the scale of the RROD they would not be as efficient as they are now.. it's not fair to completely say MS's CS is far far inferior to SONY's, they are at least picking up/repairing/returning the XBox's as fast as they can with no cost to the customer (as they damn well should!)

However I will say that Sony have a good policy, they just replace your console with a new one.. that's good, if MS didn't have the RROD issue and aren't bogged down with it, would they offer the same policy of instant console replacement, or would they always want to 'repair' it??

Why would Microsoft respond to failed PS3s?

In fairness, Sony are not naive enough to skip the quality assurance phase and rush an untested product out of the door.
