 Looking at possibly upgrading to the i7 platform (its been a while!)

What is the current batch of 920 i7 CPU's are they any good ("A" or "B" batch??)

What sort of clocks are people getting from these, I have also noticed that OCUK have stopped doing a "guaranteed" 4.2Ghz OC CPU, does this mean that the latest round of 920 i7s are not as clockable as the older batch ?

I purchased mine from ocuk a few months ago, batch no:3927A336

Clocked at 4ghz on 1.2750 vcore, air cooled with a TRUE and two 400-1200 rpm pwm fans, IBT load temps of 73-68-69-67.

Hi, I'm aware that OCUK dont usually cherry pick (unless maybe you pop in and ask really nicely), but what I am really interested in is what people have had recently and more importantly how good they have been when overclocked. :)

Interesting there is no guaranteed 4.2Ghz CPU's right now, have there been problems maintaining the guaranteed speeds or has OCUK just decided its better to let prople achieve their own OC ??

I dont recall them selling an actual guaranteed 4.2ghz i7, i know a while back they did sell guaranteed clockspeed versions of the q6600.

Setter - from your stepping I can see its an "A" batch, have you been able to get a stable 4.2Ghz out of yours ? I take it you are running at 20x200Mhz ? (or are you running at 21x190Mhz with lower lattencies ?).
Also does the P6T Deluxe have 2 sets of CPU mounting holes so you can fit a 775 cooler if required (Like the standard P6T), thinking of my VapoLS.

Havent tried 4.2 yet, running 193 x 21 at the mo, gonna try 20 x 200 soon though. My ram is currently running at 1543 mhz, 7-7-7-24 1.64v. Unfortunately the p6t dlx v2 doesnt have the s775 compatible holes, i had to purchase the 1366 bracket for my TRUE. ps, i see what you meant now by the 4.2ghz bundes, with theese ocuk basically do the overclock for you and ship it out with a saved profile.

That's actually very similar to mine, with the exception that I'm running on 20:210 and RAM on 7-7-7-24 at 1.50v. It was tested stable on IBT after 20 cycles, but that was done on "auto", I'm going to stick on 8 threads and put it through the test again to determine whether or not it is actually stable.

The temperature of your chip is very good. I'm in the middle 70's already.

The fans im using Pakjai are pretty low speed pwm models, when i do push it higher if theyre not up to the task ill replace them with a couple of sharkoon silent eagle 2000's, my TRUE is also lapped which helps a bit as well.

IBT, 20 passes, 16 threads max stress.

That's very impressive, I can definitely see you pushing it higher when you have those fans replaced. You should download the latest version of IBT. They's fixed the glitch and you can run it on 8 thread without any issues now.

I hate to be the bringer of bad news but your performance looks really low, with a 4Ghz i7 you should be getting around 50GFlops and completing each of those tests in half the time.

You might want to look into whether it's throttling.

That is performing horrendously gflops wise .

Heres a few pics of the bios setings im using, any advice to improve things is always appreciated.:)

Try running IBT 2.4 or LinX (my fave) mate I think it might just be IBT 2.3 that's rubbish as I just ran it and got much lower performance also.

Will do mmj, just had a quick browse through a lot of screens of other users running similair clocks, seems to be the same on their setups.

Is the reading on coretemp of 147.3 Watts an accurate representation of wht tdp for a 4Ghz 920 i7. or is that a generic reading for the x 21 multi ? does it go up/down dependant on the fsb/voltage also or only change with multi ? (could be the answer to another thread of mine !).

At 3.4, 3.6, 3.8 and 4.0 (all on 21 x multi) i was getting a tdp reading of 147.3.
