This will all fit, correct?

Opinions of it all really? Aiming for it to be my main computer to take to University with me, plus future proofing it with a Duo Core. On the website i configured it with, it said there will be no problems but wondering if anyone has played around with this Shuttle, any problems with it? Aiming to use the Raptor as the main XP HDD and all my games. The other 2 HDD will be used for music and general data storage.

i have / had a shuttle SD37p2, with a 8800GTX 4 x 1gb Corsair 6400, and 3 x 500gb spinpoints in there running a E4300 at 3ghz no problems, with more to spare

Selling the shuttle on MM thought at the moment ( ;) ) as i also have a Lian Li PC7, DS3, and the same E4300 running silently.

The shuttle is quiet, but not silent, and as it was in a bedroom, it got a little annoying if we had people stay over and i had to turn the thing off.

In all honesty, as i briefly mentioned in the OP, it will be build for me by another company but i am knowledgeable enough to carry out upgrades in the future. (CPU, RAM and GFX, that's all). I haven't worked with Shuttles before, hence why i'm asking a few random questions. :o

And your spec is quite impressive, especially the 4Gb RAM. Mm, as long as it isn't too quiet but perhaps the Seagates are quieter/noiser than the Spinpoints? Plus i'm having a Raptor so...hmm.

Overall, happy with the Shuttle chasis itself? :)

love shuttles, had many of them in the past, most of them have been damned near silent. The SD37, was just a little louder than i liked, hence the fact its up for sale.

The chassis is actually easier to build up than a standard PC as all of the hard work is done for you, you just need to put the cpu in, add the drives and you're done. All of the cables are pre fitted and are in the right positions for connection.

So the only issue with it was the loudness? Although you did have a 8800 (Which according to the company i'm using, that GFX can't fit in the Shuttle), plus 3 Spinpoints. :p

Nice to know it's very easy to upgrade things though - i wasn't sure what to expect.

:)

I thought the same thing less than 3 years ago with a SB65G2 shuttle, with a 2.8 P4 clocked to 3.2 Ghz. Had a 6800 GT too!

No such thing as futureproofing mate :P

I'm a SD37P2 fan too, nice PC's, doubt you'll regret it.

The noise isn't too bad, you can adjust the two main culprits in the bios (CPU Fan and the 2 fans at the back). I have the CPU fan on SmartFan and the 2 at the back on medium and it's not too bad at all.

I should imagine so, I have 2 1950 XTX's in mine with 2 Raptors and it seems ok. Others have 8800's and Quad cores (envy)!!!

EDIT: You could consider 800Mhz RAM since the SD37P2 now supports it, would give more OCing headroom if that's your inclination.

Good grief. Reason i ask, i just checked the PSU and apparently it only has a 400W...

POWER 400W PSU with active PFC
Input: 100 ~ 240V AC
EMI Certifi ed: FCC, CE, BSMI, C-tick
Safety Certifi ed: TUV, UL, CB, BSMI
Power Plug: Region Specific

Yeah, they seem solid though, my first one blew up when I tried running it off an inverter! But since then they have been solid. I guess they are just a genuine 400W.

EDIT: Shuttle fixed it free as well so dead chuffed.

EDIT: Saving up now for a R600 if they are any good, that will stretch the PS a bit.

What do you mean when you say you tried running it off an inverter? Bit lost now. :o Hmm, i was looking on OcUk and it was saying how the 8800 GTX required 500W or so basically.

My problem, i have found another company who CAN sell the 8800GTX with the Shuttle i want but only with 2xHDDS whereas another can offer me a 7950 GT and with 3xHDDS and claimed the 8800GTX can't fit. :o

Right then, there are 3 small drive bays, one is for a floppy drive and the other 2 for HD's. For 3 HD's you need to use the floppy bay, it's not a problem as the bay is concealed.

Shuttle list a 8800 GTS and GTX now on their compatability table:

http://global.shuttle.com/Support/SupportList.asp?Item=SD37P2%20V2&ver=SD37P2%20V2%20(FD37V2.x

EDIT: Updated URL for V2

EDIT: Damn must be tired all these edits, sorry, I tried using my Shuttle in a Caravan off the inverter and after a few weird clicking noises the PS burst into flames. I use uninteruptable power supplies and the Shuttles seem OK with them.

That's what i thought. Except one company believes 3 HDD spaces exist and the other company doesn't but instead offers the 8800 GTX. So i was lead to believe that maybe the 8800 GTX was a bit too big so no more space for the extra 3rd HDD.

Either way, i e-mailed the company to find out. Didn't realise it was on the Shuttle website. :)

I'll do a bit more research in to the PSU to be certain but it seems like it'll be fine.

EDIT: The 8800 GTX is Gainward, shouldn't make a difference should it...i'm 99% certain it doesn't but just
in case? :o

I wouldn't have thought so, there are a few folks with 8800 GTX's, they won't interfere with any of the Hard Drives, perhaps the supplier was thinking of fitting a floppy drive.

Mm, could be right actually. I use some people still use them? :o

Thankyou though, you've been most helpful! :)

/off to bed.

I ran 3x 400 gig hds in mine for a while [back down to one now], along with my 8800gtx, no issues at all :)

however I would personally recommend a maximum of 2 drives as the 3rd will restrict the exhaust fans at the rear

I am running a Quad core 6600, 7950GX2, and 2GB of cheapo OCZ 6400 plat Rev2, plus 1 74GB raptor and 300GB seagate, alls running well, the PSU is more than capable, some even run the same spec as me but using 150GB raptors and 8800GTXs.

TBH I would just source the parts and build myself, shuttle is possibly the most foolproof system to build, takes literal time 10 mins to install everyting (thats only cos I was fiddling with getting my GFX card in), and is bound to be cheaper to. Personally would recommend for the GTS 8800 instead of GTX as these systems run very hot, HDDs reaching 45c, memory reaches 50c under load at 800Mhz 2.0v, cpu reaches 68c for cores 0 and 1, 59c for cores 2 and 3 (I have a B0 stepping so thats why its toasty and has no speedstep) idle, all cores jump 10c on load. However the NB gets ridiculously hot under load, 70c+ measures using thermocouple on headsink (plus ~5c for actual die temp), until I put a quiet 40mm delta on it (bluetac) temps drop to high 30s low 40s. I would recommend getting a new NB HSF.

NOTE: All my fans are set to ultra-low, hate noise.

Ah ha. That's the sort of comment i was looking for...i am veering towards having 2x750Gb anyways. After all, a Shuttle can only hold so much i guess! :)

chaparral: I shall, thankyou. <3

--ki--: Very nice system. Mm, noise isn't too much of an issue for me and i may end up replacing the CPU cooler, see how it goes. As for building it myself, i am tempted to but i'm one of those people who can't sit still and actually finish a job, plus i am not that experienced and generally my life motto is paying people to do it correctly and properly the first time round. :o
