Those 'Sad Days' in your Computer Owning/Gaming Life.

Spending months playing Pool of Radiance on my Amiga only to have the boot disk corrupt when I was near completion.

That directly led to me finally breaking my Atari 2600 joystick which had faithfully stuck by me for 10 odd years despite being thrown, smashed and generally abused. Without it my 18 month unbeaten streak in two player Marble Madness was soon no more.

All in all, a very sad day :(

Heh, levelling past 30 in WoW when it was first released! It was really really great in the beggining :(

when Rare joined/were brought by microsoft (N64 96-99 was the golden age of gaming :( )

TBC, and the pre-tbc new talents patch

and slightly off-topic @ the banjo replies:

you know the speedrun from start > finish on the original banjo was done in just over an hour and a half right :p

50 odd hours on banjo seems rather slow... :p

but aye, best platformer ever :D

Playing away at X-Wing versus Tie Fighter until an ominous "snap" signalled the end of my joy-stick, not even superglue could hold it together for very long, ended up saving for weeks on end before I could buy a new one... thought I'd never be able to play it again.

More recently, buying Oblivion and realising just how badly my computer has aged, even my Dad's new computer barely runs it not that I get to use that computer or anything. Still, it's an excuse to build a new system.

When the 'Global Operations' community decided to move on :(

It had very few people who played it, but because of this it was such a tight community and all the real players new each other and visited one another's forums.

The game was buggy due to poor netcode, but it really is THE best game I ever played (and for 3 LONG years).

I really do think that if EA hadn't messed up the netcode or had actually supported the game then we would have seen a counterstrike beater with it

Apart from that, getting my fleet crashed in 'Ogame' about 2 months ago. I was gutted.

Playing Monkey Island for the entire day on the Amiga 600 then having it crash when I tried to save at night... Curse you floppy disks!!!
Hard disk failure resulting in the loss of my Might and Magic VI savegame. Me and a mate had played this game for ages and were pretty far through. It was right back to the start after this event. :(

Can't remember what game it was, but I quicksaved just before I died instead of quickloading. I didn't have a proper save game, I was too lazy just pressing F5. Almost 30 hrs gone in one stupid move. :( I then tried to avoid instant death by reloading the game for 30 minutes but I couldn't defy mavity and plummeted to my death each time. I still hear the screams at night...

WoW TBC...

made me feel all the effort in MC/BWL/Naxx/AQ were a complete waste of time. (which technically is true anyway but you know what I mean.)

Getting the metal part of a disc stuck in my Amega 500 and thinking it was good idea to remove it with a screwdriver. It never worked after that. *sheds a tear* :(

That game had some great potential. I remember when the demo had just come out and the graphics were better than CS, and you could customise your guns, which was a really cool feature. No other game really did that....plus that shotgun was great. I got the full game, but for some reason I never wanted to play it. Maybe it just didn't have the longevity of CS etc.

First that springs to mind was taking ages completing FF10 so my gf can see the ending.....we put controllers down after 3hrs constant playing sat back and relaxed to enjoy it....bam....power cut.

I remember throwing my mega drive pad because dr robotnic or whatever he called on sonic pwnd me. Or i ran out of air on that labrinty level :D

because it steals there boyfriends?
Loads of girls love wiis, especially compared to other consoles, because waving a stick about is a lot less daunting that picking up a controller really.

Loads of girls love wiis,

My girlfriend wont play with my wii :(

Anyhow, my horrible moment was many many moons ago when I had a C90 cassette full of pirated* speccy games. I was walking home from school and gazing at it looking forward to playing spyhunter and many more when he wind blew the cassette out of my hand and it smashed on the ground. My dreams turned to a celluloid ribbon unravelling before me... :(

*It was years ago. We all used to do it!

Typing in endless lines of text for a basic golf type game on my Amstrad from a mag, only to find the merge sections were mis-printed, and the game would never have run.

Selling my A1200 tower for a 486 DX2-66 so as I could play X Wing as Amiga was in trouble, so didn't want to get left behind. How I miss the Amiga.

Buying a Videologic Power VR card, only to find out I'd spent £170 on a 3D add on card that had little or no texture filtering. Then having to fork out £60 for an upgrade to get these features, when 3DFX cards were miles better.

Getting an ATI Rage video card, that was utter useless for games, purchased for Psygnosis F1 port from the Playstation. Game was rubbish, video card was just as rubbish. Upgraded very quickly to a TNT 2 Ultra. Threw the game in the bin...

Forgetting to back up my GP2 championship when I upgraded my HDD. Hours of full championship were I was points leader lost. I never had the heart to start again, game got left to collect dust after that.

Buying Doom3, only to find it was sooo dark and ran soooo slow on my older P4 system, I pretty much gave up gaming for nearly two years until I got a new C2D system about a month ago.

:D Had my far share of upsets during my gaming life....
