Those 'Sad Days' in your Computer Owning/Gaming Life.

the day after getting my new playstation, i went to hmv to buy a game for it, on a budget, i was looking for something cheapish but good.

not knowing a thing about ps games at that time, i saw a game for 20 quid called 'lone soldier' not confident on purchasing it blind, i asked the man if he would stick it on for a demo. he replied he could not as it was a 15 cert.

so a got it anyway, and upon loading it and playing it, i realized why he would not demo it for me, nothing to do with 15 cert, it was because it was absolute FULLY STAR OUT YOUR SWEARIES!

" call yourself a soldier"

when i was just using quick saves in half life and i got to zen world and pressed save instead of load just as i was falling off a cliff. ******* great!

LOL!

Mine would have be the Total War series's direction after Medieval:Total War (i.e down the toilet).

Or when I was playing deus ex for the first time I got to this bit where you have to come out of an elevator and 2 mad guys RUN at you with explosives and stuff, but found that after they do that the game crashes. Never got further than that, never worked out why it was doing that!

When Deus Ex came out I had mouse lag on it so bad that it was a good few seconds between when you moved the mouse and when the view moved....at least you could play it a bit!

The day my C64 Elite cassette innards melted themselves to the inner workings of the tape drive, taking with it my sole saved game on the Deadly rating which I'd worked on for literally years. :(

firing the BFG in DOOM and it running at about 0.3 fps

Turned out compaq had sold me a 486 system badged as a pentium 120 however said 486 on the chip, LOL

That system could handle Doom no problem....my computer back then was a 486 33Mhz SX (lol) ran Doom no problem, and it was as smooth as games back then could get.

Buying World of Warcraft..

Since I quit its amazing how much free time I have. Never looked back since and some sad sod in china paid £200 for my account :)

Selling my computers/consoles to upgrade to the next computer/console, these days i just hoard everything even if they just sit in boxes in my loft :p there my precious :D

I remember getting pretty far in many C64 games only to have the game freeze on loading the next bit due to a crumple in the tape  5 1/2 inch floppy games would freeze too. Turrican springs to mind for some reason. Sometimes I'd have to load it a hundred times and listen to the repetitive, but super awesome at the time 'Welcome to Turrican' speech over and over.

Good times :D

Someone stealing my PC :<
They seemed to have found out when I go to college and leave my window open, even tho there's always someone inside the house, they unfortunatly got away.

Forced an upgrade tho! :D

you mean they saw you leave the house, had a look and saw an open window?

best gaming moment i guess would be having the initial consoles when pc gaming wasn't really up to much, nes, snes etc then rents getting a decent semi stable pc and you could get games, and internet and porn together on one machine. every kids dream ;)

then the worst moment, decent consoles coming out and shedloads of developers selling out , delaying games, giving us cheap ports and generally pooping all over us loyal users. still getting done over by same developers and getting stupid excuses. EPIC< we've been forced to go multi platform because of piracy. most people i know if they do pirate a game go and buy it if its good and something they will actually play. i know of almost no one who buys and uses games that they would normally have bought and don't. you can play mmo's on unreliable free servers that you have no idea if they'll go down. so i've never tried, pay a small fee and have a business obliged to keep servers running. i pay £100's on games to play online, i then have to put up with shoddy and awful copyright protection which does nothing but irritate real customers, is easy to bypass by pirates and does as much to make people want to pirate a game to not put up with the crap. then they use that as an excuse for supporting consoles more :(

biggest on the list i guess would be GTA, out and out PC game, all their money made off us. then the next games of the series are appalling ports that run like crap :(

Finding out years after playing Frontier:Elite 2 on the Amiga that I was about 300 kills of getting the "ELITE" status. I read about it in a PC magazine. I had a mod thing on my Amiga version that told me how many kills I had. I think.

Well gutted. Oh and nearly finishing Operation Stealth only for it to stop working for some silly reason.
